DJ Sulli & 5657 - I Know My Future (Innerflight Music)

Veteran west coast house music DJ/producers Sean Sullivan and Cody Nasir, teaming up under the name DJ Sulli & 5657, return to Innerflight for the new single “I Know My Future,” featuring remixes from Ralph Falcon (Murk) and Pezzner.

DJ Sulli has a long history in the west coast house scene, inspired by such bay area legends as DJ Spun and Wicked crew DJs Thomas and Jeno. His Amfibius label was a definite player on the scene, releasing vinyl singles from the likes of Jay Tripwire, Alexander East, and Rick Preston. Sulli’s production activities have found him collaborating with 5657, a prominent DJ from the Lake Tahoe/Reno scene. Together they’ve combined Sulli’s ‘soul-tech’ sound with 5657’s funkier leanings for a fresh dance-floor house music style.

Propelled by a spacious vocal line, “I Know My Future” bursts out of the speakers with a powerful groove and a deep sensibility, providing the perfect soundtrack for late night house music gatherings. Miami’s Ralph Falcon delivers a re-rub of the track complete with a playful drum arrangement, menacing synth stabs to underscore the vocal hook, and a crisp but dark vibe. Acclaimed deep house virtuoso Pezzner rounds out the release with his gyrating rendition. A gnarly, modulated synth bass expertly draws in the dance floor, as Pezzner’s adept rhythm programming propels the vocal hook to new heights. All three versions are accompanied by instrumentals or dubs, adding up to another stellar pack from the Innerflight camp.

Jeromy Nail - Cinétique / Rise (Innerflight Music)

Innerflight Music set sail from their Northwest enclave of Seattle with Jeromy Nail at the helm, along with a talented set of remixers on deck, including Jay Tripwire, Spon.10.80 (aka Rhines), and Zacharia with the “Cinétique / Rise” EP. Jeromy Nail anchored the West Coast house music scene with Uniting Souls Music beginning in the early 2000s. His seminal sets can be heard at legendary Flammable Sundays (the West Coast’s longest running house weekly, now twenty years strong) and various underground parties in the Seattle area. With releases and remixes for the likes of Viva Recordings, Build It Records, Bomb Recordings, Prison Entertainment, Radda Records, and Uniting Souls, Jeromy has been busy on the scene.

Cruise director Jeromy Nail sets forth with the well-named “Rise,” a deftly produced number whose tension mounts in synth washes to explosive percussive techno that’s sure to incite all to rise and get on the dancefloor. “Cinétique” is a late-night foray into polyrhythmic tech-house with buoyant pads, keys, and minimal vocals.

Tech-house maven Jay Tripwire remixes “Rise,” laying bare the original with minimal tech and driving bass for a late-night romp. Spon.10.80 brings a progressive flavor to “Rise” with acid-inspired percussion offset by stomping low frequencies. Zacharia of 360 BPM fame follows with a hypnotic, slow-burning remix of “Cinétique.” Taken together, the “Cinétique / Rise” EP is a cruise through both placid and roiling waters of late-night revelry.

Pezzner (Freerange) – “Cinematic, full gorgeous house tunes here throughout.”
Tyler Stadius (Deepsite) – “Big Sound. Looking forward to playing Rise soon.”
Nick Warren (Hope Recordings) – “Rise is great!”

Jeromy Nail - Dontcha Care (Innerflight Music)

Jeromy Nail returns to Seattle’s Innerflight Music with his latest single "Dontcha Care", featuring remixes from a trio of talented Pacific Northwesterners. Jeromy has had a number of releases for the likes of Viva Recordings, Hype & Soul, House Call, and Uniting Souls, who he's been associated with since the early 2000s. He's been especially busy in the studio lately, and "Dontcha Care" marks Jeromy's second release on Innerflight Music in just a few months.

"Dontcha Care", featuring a fusion of arpeggiated synths over a dynamic bass line, fades in slowly but quickly finds its natural stride. Jeromy keeps the pace moving forward interweaving warm chords, vocal samples, and melodic elements which culminate in a contrast of driving rhythms against fading summer vibes. For good measure, and to help sate the vocal adverse, an instrumental mix is also supplied.

Hanssen (of Jacob London fame, and hot off the heels of acclaimed sophomore full-length Transit on Hush Hush Records) delivers a slower, pitched-down version. A deep, textured four-on-the-floor groove builds over eight minutes. With its superb production, spacious atmospherics, and Hanssen’s signature left-field stylings, this remix is sure to please.

Next up is Liberian-born artist / producer Sam Paye. Cutting his teeth in the 2000s US breakbeat and progressive scenes, Sam toured extensively to support releases on Moonshine and System Recordings. More recently focused on a mélange of hip-hop, dancehall, and electronic soul, Sam turns over a stellar mix which captures the flavor of the original reimagined as a trap-inspired, bass-infused club banger.

Rounding things out with an intricately dubbed-out, tech-house flavored rendition is Portland’s Jon Cates. Known for his work on Om Records as Rocket Empire and Cates & dPL, Jon effortlessly blends snappy, syncopated drums, light percussion, vocal stabs, and melodic synth elements to take the dance floor on a smooth, hypnotic ride deep into the twilight hours.

Nick Warren (Hope Recordings) - “Great original and a killer Hanssen remix!”
Brett Johnson (Bang The Box / Classic Music Company) - “I really like Hanssen’s remix.”
Tyler Stadius (Despite / Dialtone Records) - “I’m feeling the Jon Cates remix.”
Golf Clap (Country Club Disco) - “Dope!”
Sumsuch (Colour and Pitch / Mega Jawns) - “The Jon Cates remix is doing it for me. The original is lovely, too!”
Eric Davenport (Guesthouse) - “Solid futuristic grooves.”
Distant People (Foliage / Seamless) - “This is so cool. It just has a wicked lifted feel to it … so clean and full of feeling.”
Al Bradley (3am Recordings) - “I’m feeling Jon Cates’s remix here … really solid deepness with a subtle warmth. It’s ideal for my mid-sets.”
DJ Firefly (Couch Dancing on WRCT 88.3 FM) - “Every mix of this is good in it's own way … solid release all around!”
Jero Nougues (Deep Essence Radio Show) - “Jon Crates remix is ON POINT! Loving the groove from that track.”
Kid Hops (KEXP 90.3 - Seattle) - “Lovely EP.”
KP London (FEEL Radio Show) - “Supporting Sam Paye remix 100%.”

Jeromy Nail - Farewell Dialogue (Innerflight Music)

Seattle’s Innerflight Music has returned with the first of three singles by longtime Pacific northwestern underground house music advocate Jeromy Nail. As part of the Uniting Souls Music collective since the early 2000s, Jeromy sharpened his DJ’ing skills on many late night dance floors, including residences at the seminal Flammable Sundays – the West Coast’s longest running house weekly twenty years strong – and the (now defunct) electronic dance music haven See Sound Lounge. With releases and remixes for the likes of Viva Recordings, Hype & Soul, House Call, and, of course, the Uniting Souls label, Jeromy's been busy on the scene.

"Farewell Dialogue" is a brooding, cinematic undertaking rooted in a four-on-the-floor foundation but with a distinctly non-peak hour ethic. The track is intricately constructed with layers of synth pads, strings, and melodic elements buoyed by its tough rhythm and bass pairing. Vancouver's Jay Tripwire continues his stunning string of audio explorations with two cool remixes of Jeromy's original. Jay delivers strong with a nine minute main mix and a shorter 'dub' mix, stripping the original to its essentials and infusing it with his heady house, dub, and techno amalgam. The results are mesmerizing and a perfect fit for underground after hours adventures.
