Sonz of the Pitch - Samba Anna EP (Patsada Records)

Sonz of the Pitch are a funky Belgian house music duo made up of Phil Nobel and Ricardo Martins. With previous releases including their well-received debut on Patsada and the Welcome Home EP for Gourmand Recordings, the pair look to light up DJ booths and dance floors across Europe and beyond. This new single for Patsada Records -- the Samba Anna EP -- features three choice, percussive cuts that feature an abundance of punch and club-driving grooves. "Samba Anna" opens the single with a playful chant over a solid rhythmic base … drum fills and a latin touch help make this one a treat for the dancers. It's accompanied by a 'dub' version that gives the crisp, banging rhythm section some close attention. This one's a perfect late night groove ready to accelerate a party into overdrive. "After The Dance" closes out the release, bringing on a slightly darker vibe but not without a bit of swing and a formidable after-hours slink. Its flow is hypnotic and certainly infectious. The Sonz of the Pitch come correct.

Phil Nobel - All's Cool (Patsada Records)

Patsada Records finds itself at release number fifteen with the "All's Cool" / "U 2" single, a reminder of how they've approached the journey thus far. Managed by Miss Mee and Phil Nobel, Patsada delivers once again on its promise of soulful, funky house inspired by the revered NYC, Chicago, and San Francisco house scenes.

In a move that's symbolic for the label, the release sees its co-founder Phil Nobel finally coming forward from behind the scenes. Previously pulling strings in the shadows, he lets the lights flood over his house format tinkering, which proves to be crafty and masterful right from the top. Coming at the two tracks double-blind, the release suggests the funky Parisian influence of early supporter Phil Weeks, the Robsoul Recordings boss and previous collaborator with the Patsada label. Whether it be the shuffling tech groove and classy piano flutters of "All's Cool", or the glitchy, robotic nu-nu-disco of "U 2", this body of work sounds instantly fresh and familiar -- the characteristics of classic timelessness.
