Sonz of the Pitch - Rola Pedra (Patsada Records)

The new year brings Patsada Records headquarters from Brussels to Montreal and the label's awaited 20th release. "Rola Pedra" is the latest from Sonz of the Pitch, a funky house music duo made up of Phil Nobel and Ricardo Martins. With previous releases including their well-received singles on Patsada and the Welcome Home EP for Gourmand Recordings, the pair look to light up global DJ booths and dance floors. The single begins with a deep-as-f%^k remix from French DJ / producer Joss Moog (Ondulé Recordings, Robsoul) which delicately strips "Rola Pedra" down to its intimate essentials, revealing an effective and tight after hours cut. JR From Dallas (Gourmand, Farris Wheel) is up next with a different approach, as he layers percussion and key hits over a prominent bass line, all to a deliriously funky effect. The 'B side' of the single reveals two versions from Sonz of the Pitch, starting with the somewhat jackin' Downtown Mix. Punchy rhythms and a patient build lead to a fun breakdown that introduces an intoxicating vocal loop. The Uptown Mix then gets down-and-dirty, laying on some '80s-sounding funk synth riffs, a bit of intricate snare action, and another appearance of the previous mix's vocal hook. "Rola Pedra" is here to get the party in motion.

Sonz of the Pitch - Samba Anna EP (Patsada Records)

Sonz of the Pitch are a funky Belgian house music duo made up of Phil Nobel and Ricardo Martins. With previous releases including their well-received debut on Patsada and the Welcome Home EP for Gourmand Recordings, the pair look to light up DJ booths and dance floors across Europe and beyond. This new single for Patsada Records -- the Samba Anna EP -- features three choice, percussive cuts that feature an abundance of punch and club-driving grooves. "Samba Anna" opens the single with a playful chant over a solid rhythmic base … drum fills and a latin touch help make this one a treat for the dancers. It's accompanied by a 'dub' version that gives the crisp, banging rhythm section some close attention. This one's a perfect late night groove ready to accelerate a party into overdrive. "After The Dance" closes out the release, bringing on a slightly darker vibe but not without a bit of swing and a formidable after-hours slink. Its flow is hypnotic and certainly infectious.
