Terry Farley - Die 4 U (Bonanza Records)

Bonanza Records is proud to welcome UK house music legend Terry Farley to the label for the exuberant new single “Die 4 U”. Terry’s musical history is long and storied, from his beginnings co-founding Boys Own with the likes of Andrew Weatherall, to his classic productions with Roach Motel, Bocca Juniors, and Heller & Farley, to his spellbinding DJ sets at Fabric, Ministry Of Sound, and other iconic venues … indeed Terry is royalty of the scene. “Die 4 U” showcases these credentials with a riveting peak time track containing all the best features of classic house music. The insistent four-on-the-floor, the bass line bounce, the acid embellishments, and the soulful vocal imploring “lie for me / cry for me / die for me” … it’s a potent stomper that’ll likely be heard at many club sessions from here on out.

The classy remix duo of Severino (Horse Meat Disco) and Nico De Ceglia (Hyena Stomp) proceed to twist “Die 4 U” into a bass heavy after hours banger, adding an ominous sheen and some serious beats. Next up, the prolific Lisbon-bred Munich-based DJ / producer Alkalino delivers a version that raises the funk quotient and boosts the acid a tad as well. A filtered arpeggio line adds a bit of extra drama to the dance floor. Bonanza’s own Handzoff gives the snare drum a rolling workout in his remix, which lends a sparser but more dynamic feel to “Die 4 U” while inserting even more classic house elements. The extended breakdown should really get the club hollering. This package is pure foot-food for house music enthusiasts everywhere.

Dean Facer (Resident Advisor) – “The legend continues … great release yet again from Terry.”
Murray Richardson (Electrica Salsa) – “All mixes are cool, but I’m really into the original. Loving the sound of this!”
Billie Ray Martin (Disco Activisto Records) – “I love all the tracks equally. The Nico and Severino mix rules the most, but the Alkalino and Handzoff mixes are equally kicking while having an eye on the future. Well done!”
Jask (Thaisoul) – “Very nice!”
Graeme Park (The Graeme Park Radio Show) – “Love it!”
Booker T. (Kings Of Soul) – “Heavy vibes from Terry, will support.”
Jeannie Hopper (WBAI FM – New York) – “Fabulousness! Fierce.”
Marcia Carr (Mi-Soul Radio / Ladyz) – “Solid floor filler, this hits the mark!”

Christy Love - Internal Waves (Get Up Recordings)

Next up from Get Up Recordings is the full-on acid and tech house killer “Internal Waves” from label owner Christy Love. The package includes the original and two incredible remixes by artists hailing from across the pond, London’s Severino & Hifi Sean and Manchester’s MissB.

Christy Love has been immersed in the house music scene for more than two decades and is one of the most sought-after DJs in NYC because she consistently destroys dance floors all over the city and beyond. Her distinct sets comprise of a clever mixture of classic and modern house bursting with driving tech beats and funky bass lines … she plays a pivotal role in defining the current underground sound of New York. This DJ prowess – combined with her individual production work and her work as House of Stank with long-time collaborator W. Jeremy, and the success of their label, Get Up Recordings – has transformed Christy into a house music triple threat. “Internal Waves” is pure acid magic, coupled with her signature style of driving tech beats, a punching bass line and swinging jack percussion 'Straight Outta Chi-Town'. With her clever use of vocal samples to highlight the swelling acid sounds, the track becomes a super-hypnotic groove that would easily fill a dance floor of any size.

First up on remix duties are well-known London-based DJs, producers, and long-time GUR family members Severino (Horse Meat Disco) and Hifi Sean (The Soup Dragons, The High Fidelity). Their collaboration brings “Internal Waves” to the big room with a dark and funky 2-step rhythm and a stripped-down interpretation of the original’s acid sound. Their remix is a true 'bonus beats' type of track, with heavy drums, claps, snares, rides, and cymbals and is guaranteed to please during those peak hours.

The second remix of “Internal Waves” comes courtesy of Manchester’s MissB (a.k.a. Gina Breeze), whose Bugged EP released on GUR earlier this year created quite the buzz. Already a DJ – having a residency at the club SpeedQueen, playing the Glastonbury Festival in 2009, and currently holding a residency at BEATNIK – MissB’s logical next step was production. House music giants Heidi, Eats Everything, and Jackmaster chose her first track, “Don’t Stop”, as the winning entry at the Parklife Festival Producer Competition in 2013. Her remix takes a dark and dirty departure from the original; classic acid grooves sprinkled with vocals stabs and her signature tech / jackin' beats give her remix some serious legs and she’s only just begun to stretch them.

Larry Tee - "The original is a nice track!"
Onionz - "That MissB remix is off the hook."
Alinka (Classic Music Co. / Twirl Chicago) - "Always solid!"
Vanilla Ace - "The original mix for me."

DJ Style (Knob Records) - "That MissB remix is cool."
Sumsuch (Colour and Pitch / Mega Jawns) - "The Severino & Hifi Sean remix for me … lovely work."
Jean Jérome (Radio FG / Kut 'N' Paste) - "Nice Chicago vibes on the MissB remix."
Joe Roberts (DJ Mag / Chew The Fat!) - "Cracking release. MissB comes out of nowhere to steal the show with her remix."
Tariq Ziyad (New Urban ERA / Planet Rave) - "You can't beat a bit of acid! I'm feeling all three versions … excellent."

W. Jeremy - Augusto EP (Get Up Recordings)

Get Up Recordings co-owner, W. Jeremy, kicks off the label’s 2014 releases with two original tracks, “Nerve” and “Augusto”. “Nerve” features remixes from Horse Meat Disco’s Severino and the Italian duo Carol. This single may be W. Jeremy’s first solo release, but he is no stranger to production. He has previous originals with fellow Get Up Recordings boss Christy Love as House of Stank and remixes for their co-run label as well as GFY Black Label, Men Make Music, and Kinetika Records.

Nerve” is a deep house club track with a Detroit-style key progression, warm bass line, and continuous vocal sample all leading up to a quick breakdown before winding back into the swing of things. Horse Meat Disco’s Severino gives “Nerve” his signature remix treatment, combining wide-ranging and eclectic house music influences for a real banger. With a funky bass line, time stretched vocals, and high pitched squelches ripping through the air, this mix is definitely for the big room. Carol is a production duo from Milan made up of members Damien and Fedex. Their interpretation of “Nerve” uses an amazingly dark wave of filter sweeps and Micro Korg hits that transport the listener along a deep disco journey.

The second W. Jeremy original, “Augusto”, is a deep house track with an airy and fluid Jupiter synth lead, a deep grooving bass line, and filtered rhythmic keys. It’s a beautiful finish to another fantastic package from Get Up Recordings.

Up Yours feat. FERAL is KINKY - London (Get Up Recordings)

The latest release from Get Up Recordings comes from the London-based house music act, Up Yours. The track is called “London” and features legendary MC Kinky (Caron) as FERAL is KINKY on vocals. Up Yours consists of Severino from the Horse Meat Disco collective and HiFi Sean, both well-known London-based DJs and producers. The track is a catchy, punchy bass jam packed with reggae-charged vocals. There are three original versions included in this package: a vocal mix, a dub mix, and a radio edit.

The first remix comes from NYC DJ/producer, Honey Dijon. She gives the remix her signature harder house treatment with a surprise organ break in middle. Next up is Delgado (Stealth, Cinetique Recordings) and he really puts a jacking touch on his remix, indicative of US west coast house, with vocals to match. Sveta and Tokoloshe are a remix duo from Sydney, Australia. Their high-energy Giorgio Moroder-inspired take on “London” brings to mind large outdoor summer festivals. The last remix comes from Donkie Punch with a heavy, deep UK bass house style featuring pitched-down vocals.
