Thomas De Lorenzo - Dirty Happy People (Fresh Cream Records)

The summer might be gone, but Fresh Cream Records is ready to set the rest of 2012 on fire with a string of hot releases. Follwing the top 30 charting success last spring of “In My Heart,” Fresh Cream Records presents “Dirty Happy People,” a new floor-filler from label don Thomas De Lorenzo. After releasing memorable deep, soulful house tunes on labels such as Defected and Purple Music in the last couple years, as well as his well-received “Remember My Name” for Gooseneck Records, Thomas dove head first into 2012 with a terrific new sound. And that sound, incorporating eighties and nu-disco production elements combined with contemporary house music affections, is in full effect with “Dirty Happy People.” The slinky rhythm and bold bass line drive an almost ominous synth melody while the infectious, effected vocal sample builds in volume. It’s dark, it’s groovy, and it’s most assuredly a track that will stand out in the DJ’s set. Yet another superb, unique, and club-ready treat from the heart and soul of Italy’s Fresh Cream Records.

Steeve Mask feat. Adama - Loosen Up (Fresh Cream Records)

Italy’s Fresh Cream Records continues its ambitious pace with the sixth release from the label, marking the return of Steeve Mask and regular collaborator Adama. Steeve is a veteran DJ on the Italian scene, one half of The Bulletz with Thomas De Lorenzo, and co-owner of Fresh Cream. He’s starting to really make a name for himself with his refreshing deep house style, incorporating elements of nu-disco and funk into a floor-pleasing sound. Parisian vocalist Adama provided vocals on Steeve Mask’s single that launched Fresh Cream, the well received “Sweet Romance,” and now they’ve combined forces again for the brand new “Loosen Up.”

“Loosen Up” instantly creates a feel-good floor vibe with its disco rhythm, captivating bass line, housey piano chords, and Adama’s silky vocal delivery. This is the perfect track to knock the party into next gear and get the dancers flooding the boogie zone. Prime mover! Fresh Cream regulars Marco Rea & RU.DiJ are on hand for the first remix, a delicious ‘dub’ that pulls things deeper and in a more electronic realm, using repeated phrases from Adama’s vocal track to a hypnotizing effect. This one’s solidly placed for an after-hours affair. The second remix in the package comes from Steeve’s partner in The Bulletz and Fresh Cream, Thomas De Lorenzo. With lush synth pads, clappy 808 percussion, effected vocals, and a pulsating bass line this treatment borders on Balearic deep house, making it a top choice for summer beach-side soirees. Three beautiful tracks from Fresh Cream Records here, ready for residence in your digital DJ crate.

Christos Kedras (Kapa Music) - “Nice package. The Thomas de Lorenzo remix is my pick. I like the dark edge.”

Alistair Gillespie & Alex Deep - Good Ol’ Days (Gooseneck Records)

For the first time on Gooseneck Records, producers Alistair Gillespie and Alex Deep come together for the introspective, deep track “Good Ol’ Days.” After their recent debut release as a production duo on Crossworld Records (and Alex’s own recordings on the likes of Pure Substance, Stab Recordings, and, of course, Gooseneck), this release maintains their personal take on deep and spacey indie-influenced house music sounds. The original “Good Ol’ Days” is a creeping mid-tempo four-on-the-floor weapon with persistent low end, a dreamy vocal hook, and a deliciously dubbed-out mid-section aiming to keep the dance-floor mesmerized. A simple yet effective combination of retro-style bass, percussion, and a hypnotically filtered sax line is sure to please all ears. There’s also a Sax Edit that brings the uplifting horn melody to the fore.

An expressive track like “Good Ol’ Days” certainly deserves varied remix treatments. After the recent success of his “In My Heart" single on Fresh Cream Records, Thomas De Lorenzo returns to Gooseneck with his own nu-disco-influenced take that shifts the emphasis to a powerful bass, the repeating vocal hook, and a rhythmic funk guitar. Los Angeles producer Ram Sampath next creates a bouncy mix with uplifting piano chords, chopped up sax, and tech-house inspired rhythms that build to a satisfying climax. The Cologne, Germany based Frank Sebastian takes things deeper with a chugging mix that is driven by warm pads, acoustic bass accents, and highlights the wistfulness of the vocal line. Chicago’s Rick Drako then gives a classic-sounding warehouse-style house treatment that does his city proud, and rising Chilean DJ/producer Marcelo Vak (WhoBear, Suma) provides a rousing, peak-time straight ahead house version to close out the single. “Good Ol’ Days” from Gooseneck Records is jam-packed and ready for nightclub action.

Giom (Lost My Dog) - “Liking the Thomas De Lorenzo mix for the club and the production on the Frank Sebastien version.”
Makossa & Megablast - “Solid stuff.”
Alexi Delano - “The Frank Sebastian remix is nice!”
Vincent Kwok - “Good funky remix from Thomas De Lorenzo!”
Murray Richardson - “Ram Sampath remix is the one for me.”
Nick Holder - “Feeling it! Frank Sebastian’s remix is dope.”
DJ Nutritious (Brooklyn Shakedown) - “Nice single. Invokes the spirit of unity and that’s always a plus. Really diggin’ a few of the mixes here and will certainly be playing a few of them out and about!”
Joey Silvero (Distant People) - “Very, very smooth sound. Thomas De Lorenzo takes this on a cool, laid back ride. Frank Sebastian also delivers the goods.”
Bobi (Global Movement Radio Show) - “Fantastic. Loving the saxophone. The Sax Edit and the Thomas De Lorenzo remix get the job done without a doubt. Tune!”
Steve Zelenka (Streetnoise! Radio Show) - ” Love the bass sound, fret squeaks and all!”
Al Bradley (3am Recordings) - “Some very cool grooves on this release. The original is very strong and the Marcelo Vak version also stands out. But the one for me is Frank Sebastian’s version … really wicked deep flowing house. Top stuff.”
Rick Preston - “The Marcelo Vak Remix is slammin’!”
Eddie Spettro - “Thomas De Lorenzo Remix FTW! Love it”

Thomas De Lorenzo - In My Heart (Fresh Cream Records)

After the success of Steeve Mask’s “Sweet Romance,” Fresh Cream Records immediately issues its second top notch single, this time from label don Thomas De Lorenzo. After releasing memorable deep, soulful house tunes on labels such as Defected and Purple Music in the last couple years, as well as his well-received “Remember My Name” for Gooseneck Records, Thomas dives into 2012 with a terrific new sound. With “In My Heart" Thomas merges his soulful roots with some Berlin-style tech-house rhythms, all shaken about with a groovy nu-disco vibe. There’s a vocal sample that will stick in the listener’s mind as the bouncing bass line keeps things moving on the dance floor. It’s a surefire hit to spice up a DJ’s sets.

The song is complemented with a couple of excellent remixes from producers who may be familiar to those who spun Fresh Cream’s first release. Italian duo Marco Rea & Rudy return with a techy treatment that includes vintage drum sounds and ravey synths. This remix will surely please the late night clubbers. Next up, Steeve Mask (who is also a member of The Bulletz along with Thomas) digs into the vocal sample with his signature ‘disco heaven’ style. A 70’s bass feel and live sounding drums only serve to seal the deal. Two releases in and Fresh Cream Records is already shaping up to be a label to watch.
