Tobor Rellik - Stationary Traveling (Harmonious Discord)

Tobor Rellik graces us with Stationary Traveling, his first full-length excursion into softly muted insanity—the flavor-rich compilation of dance tracks and beyond leverages dissonance with mastery. Launching the compilation is a floaty-found sound reprise perfect for dialing in the tension in the atmosphere. Stripped-down serenades like "Tapeworm" and "Lost Control" hover between resonating nightmare fuel and future funk. "Walking in Circles" dials in the bass theatrics while keeping the blended sonic shimmers. "Droppin Moms" and "Reverse Polarity" dial up the disorienting percussion with breakdowns into largely chaotic meshes of silliness and uncertainty. "Merky Atmosphere" is an absolutely bonkers late-night driver. Stubbled drum fills and high-intensity bass variations propel the later episodes of the album. "Selective Memory" harkens to early Spectral releases with the same detail in the groove. Tobor Rellik has consistently contributed to the Harmonious Discord's evolution, and this album perfectly encapsulates his development into a sonic force.

Jake Beautyman - Shadow Them Hills (Harmonious Discord Recordings)

Harmonious Discord is excited to welcome Suffolk-based producer Jake Beautyman (Bosh, Bombis, Damolh Records) to the label with an abstract-leaning dance record focused on disorienting melodies and sharp percussion. “Shadow Them Hills” is a tense and satisfying exploration of audio signals and sonic creepiness. Label mainstays Tobor Rellik and Onium provide a pair of fantastic remixes.

“Shadow Them Hills” tempers warehouse drum construction with carefully-placed sampling. Escalating arpeggios dance around each other as siren sounds move the music forward. Theremin-esque haunted leads sweep through during the multiple reprises. “Shadow Them Hills” is a fantastic tool for turning up the energy and setting sail for darker waters.

Tobor Rellik puts forth an amazing bass-driven rework. Focusing on the processed effects and rumbling sub-bass, the rework is guaranteed to wake the neighbors. Onium dives deeper with a dub techno re-imagination. Swirling pads settle the sampled material and the raw techno elements are preserved but rolled in with precision. Jake closes out the project with a fitting b-side called “Release and Guidance.” The selection features a similar focus on the abstract now accompanied by vocal samples and detuned modular plucks.

Colin Dale (Abstrakt Dance Records) – “Excellent EP. All cuts are rocking. A+”
Lcaise (Tanztone Records) – “Strong release. Tobor Rellik and Onium remixes for me, but the originals are also great. Will play for sure.”

Aidin Hafezamini & Visions of Glosters - Wizard of Oz (Harmonious Discord)

Harmonious Discord is all about Texas artists. The label was born in the expansive state where talent knows no boundaries. Its focus has been on displaying the underground talent of the state coupled with contributions from friends near and far. Two exciting new artists making impressions in the grand state are Aidin Hafezamini (Denied, Audiophile Deep, This and That) and Visions of Glosters (Audiophile Deep front-man). Harmonious Discord is excited to give you their first release on the label with the perfectly odd Wizard of Oz. Joining the project to explore new variations is industry icon Joshua Collins (Audio Soul Project, Underground Construction) with two remixes and HD frequent Tobor Rellik with a dubbed out techno re-envision.

Wizard of Oz” is laden with spook and surprise. Chunked-out percussion plays off of often random and disorienting synthetics and samples. The original mix chugs along and builds like a dizzy spell as penetrating tones ring higher in pitch. The 5am Bass Mix switches out the dubby bass with robotic arpeggiations and Georgio Moroder-esque melodic construction. This one trades out the dissolved orientation with technical precision. Joshua CollinsAlpha Mix lightens the mood and incorporates a more classic house construction. This version mixes heavy techno percussion with carefully crafted melodic elements that dance around each other. Collins’ accompanying Omega Mix keeps the same hard techno elements but closes the filters and gives time for the pads and melodic accents to develop. Energy is dialed up when a filtered bass element takes command of the song. The breakdown delivers a euphoric reprise as the pads evolve into even richer soundscapes. Not to be ignored is Tobor Rellik’s take, breathing complex bass line shifts and periodic percussion effects into the original. Tobor’s complex assembly of technical sound bites and permeable synthesizer development transverses the discerned ear of any house or technophile.

As the landscape of Texas artists continues to deliver norm-shattering artisans, expect to hear more from artists like Aidin, Visions of Glosters, and Tobor Rellik.

Tony H (Late Night Munchies / Viva Recordings) – “The 5am Bass mix for me.”
Sumsuch (Colour and Pitch) – “Joshua Collins kills this!”
Ulysses (Neurotic Drum Band) – “Solid EP. The first 3 mixes are all killer.”
Alvaro Hylander (DeepWit Recordings) – “Liking Joshua’s vision on this one. Both remixes are great, smooth and powerful.”
Massimiliano Pagliara (Balihu) – “The Alpha mix is dope!”
DJ Tronic (Dancefloor Mayhem Blog) – “I really like the Tobor Rellik remix. Will play on my radio shows.”
DJ P-Rez (Not So Fast Records) – “This is a very solid release. All cuts hit it out of the park.”

Josiah Fontenot - Lazy Brute (Harmonious Discord)

Josiah Fontenot first made an appearance with an oddly spacey tune on the sixth installment if Harmonious Discord's annual Discordian Dreaming compilation under the moniker El Natured. Since then he has been sending the label collections of blissful hardware recordings that pay homage to the defining electronic sounds of the early 2000s. Josiah Fontenot's first EP under his full name – titled Lazy Brute – is a collection warm analog offerings with many beautiful shades of imperfection.

The EP starts off with the original of "Lazy Brute", providing full frontal distorted drum work alongside some well-tempered acid lines. It progresses into a fully flourished set of conjoining melodies and accents that define it as a proper head trip. Rising producer Ivan Dbri partners up with Rocko to take the forward nature of "Lazy Brute" and put it in the context of a signature New York house sound. With hints of garage and an earth-quaking bass line the remix gives disciplined structure to the abstract nature of the original. "The Cold Winter Wind" changes directions to a minimally constructed, bell-driven deep house vibe. Remnants of early Jeff Samuel and Villalobos works flutter around with artistic, playful synth and drum accents. This tune rides the barrier of techno and house in a way that will compliment many HD's multi-genre artists. Texas DJ staple Joshua Kynd has been enlisted for the remix, under his deeper moniker Tobor Rellik. Josh gives "The Cold Winter Wind" a playful tech-house bounce while keep the mood light and melody driven. Heavy attractions enter the arena as the piece moves forward, making for a great tool to fill the floor. The final track, "Knight Moves", is more of a proper tech-house workout, complete with heavy bass lines, 80s accents, and lots of pitch bent pads for keeping the dance floor 'tubular'.
