Mac-K-Cee - Temptation (Whiskey Pickle Records)

Whiskey Pickle Records welcome German producer Mac-K-Cee to the fold with his super-groovy debut for the label. “Temptation" and "Step Outside” are a pair of classics-inspired deep house cuts that feature bouncy grooves, lovely stabs, and euphoric vocal samples. The single features two remixes of "Temptation", with the first coming from label mainstay Walter Jones (DFA / Permanent Vacation) who drops the tempo considerably and adds his signature swing and acidic flourishes. Cancun’s The Funk District follows suit with an equally low slung dub version that channels the sun drenched vibes this fresh producer is becoming known for.

Hawke - Cantamon (Whiskey Pickle)

Gavin Hardkiss returns to the Whiskey Pickle fold and dons his fabled solo guise -- Hawke -- for a double header treat of balearic house workouts, with remixes from Steve Cobby (Fila Brazillia) and Walter Jones (DFA, Permanent Vacation).

"Cantamon" is an extended jam that incorporates chirpy percussion, lush strings, and a live bass groove … top that off with some dubby female vocals and you have a serious winner. Steve Cobby steps up to lay down a whopping ten minute, acid-tribal groove of heaviness with his version of the track, and its something that certainly should not be taken lightly.

Flip it over and we have “Baltimore Boston Express”, a hypnotic groover that bears the obvious hallmarks and quirks of a Hardkiss brother. Its choppy vocal samples and vintage arpeggios create a deep groove that is ominous and relentless. Wrapping things up another luminary returns to Whiskey Pickle: Walter Jones. His I-95 Remix features a thundering bottom end and boat-loads of swagger.

Nick Warren - "Another great release from the mighty Hawke!"
Flash Atkins (Paper Recordings) - "Yep, digging and these and the good ship Cobby never slips dock."
Anthony Pappa - "Cool EP. Best track for me is 'Baltimore Boston Express'. Awesome tunes."
Bill Brewster (DJ History) - "I like both versions of 'Cantamon' … very nice."
Rune Lindbæk (Drum Island) - "Steve Cobby's mix is the one for me!"
Sumsuch (Colour and Pitch / Mega Jawns) - "Sunshiney loveliness on both originals and Steve Cobby's mix is really really special, too. I'd be a damn fool if I didn't play these."
Al Bradley (3am Recordings) - "'Baltimore Boston Express' is exactly the type of nagging vibe which gets people on the dance floor moving in harmony. And Walter Jones's steady rolling remix is a touch of class."
Al Mackenzie ((Untitled) / Brassneck) - "Excellent EP."
Mac-k-cee (Loco Records / Neurotraxx) - "The Walter Jones remix of 'Baltimore Boston Express' is awesome … will play for sure."
Ken Liu (Headset Recordings / MyHouseYourHouse) - "Groovy and eclectic. 'Feeling Baltimore Boston Express' … thick ass funk."
Distant People (Foliage / Seamless) - "This is so cool … totally different and has a twisted groove and vibe to it."
DJ Nova (Rodon FM, Greece) - "'Cantamon' is a stellar tune, full of summer effects, breeze, and deep Balearic vibe … another delight from Whiskey Pickle."

Walter Jones - Balanced Sounds EP (Whiskey Pickle)

Whiskey Pickle Records is delighted to present this brand new release from deep south house producer Walter Jones. The Balanced Sounds EP is a tasty 4-tracker of original tunes from the DFA / Permanent Vacation alum that showcases an impressive breadth of dance floor diversity.

Night Flier” is a funky, electro-boogie number that sails upon the winds of a starry evening while “Stepping Into Paradise” is a shuffling, swagger-laden house joint with retro chords and swirling pads. On the flip-side, “Colossus” says it all in the name: its hypnotic, slow-burning stomp is huge in all proportions. The closer, “Tokyo Garden,” could be the soundtrack to a psychedelic, re-interpretation of your favorite Kurosawa film if the samurai faced off under a disco ball.

Johnny Blackouts - Boozehound EP (Whiskey Pickle)

Johnny Blackouts’ Boozehound EP is an orchestral stupor through dark city streets. It’s an ivory-suited John Travolta stepping out with his Saturday night swagger and a pocketful of psychedelic fever for the disco. Colors change with every footfall. Unsuspecting horns blare out of alleyways. Crumpled men nestled betwixt rusty trash cans raise their heads momentarily, spurting out humanity’s wrongdoings. But the walk continues just as it started - easy, undisturbed, embracing adventure around every corner. Johnny Blackouts’ Boozehound EP is flawlessly structured to complement a rich and heavy population of sounds, generating the bloodline of an animated metropolis.

Elevating in effect, “Broken" harmonizes organic, woody sounds with the whizzes and whirs of the future. Blackouts’ track is headstrong and undeniably rousing - an ideal accompaniment for the journey outward.

Walter Jones knows you want more woodblock. In his take of “Broken,” the DFA recording artist adds a sprinkle of boom-snap, neatly reigning the cornucopia of the original into a candy-covered Tootsie Roll center. Grand sweeps and key-filled crescendos heighten the Jones’ experience.

In “Topshelf,” red and blue lasers turn away from each other, slicing through the fog. There are ripped t-shirts and flashes of patent leather canvas purple eye shadows and hot pink cheek streaks. The white-clad outsider wipes the whiskey from the corners of his mouth, as a malformed David Lynch character does a sideways tip-toe across the room, and a saxophone laments in the distance. Chained together by a golden thread, “Topshelf” is a cinema of soundscapes.

Johnny Blackouts spares no expense when it comes to cerebral coitus. Laden with jarring samples and a frenzied tempo, “Skrewhead" ties up the Boozehound EP nicely. The peppy stroll around the way peaks with an intoxicating tempest of sounds…

Nick Warren - “This is excellent music. Will support.”
Mixmaster Morris - “Sparkly!”
Recloose - “The Walter Jones remix bumps!”
Q-Burns Abstract Message - “Totally down with ‘Broken.’ Rousing business for the dancefloor noggin.”
Fine Cut Bodies - “Love the dirty disco vibe.”
Mystic Rock (This Is Not An Exit) - “This is clearly tailor made for my night. Exotic, ecstatic, psychedelic, totally other.”
Acid Ted blog - “Brilliantly sprawling, cosmic, and epic.”
