Jason Mitchell - Devil In The Detail / Just A Little Lower (Deep House Aficionado)

Deep House Aficionado is in the summer swing of things with a new deep house single from its very own Jason Mitchell. A staple of the Sydney house music scene behind the decks, he has been making a name for himself behind the mixing desk as of late. He has enjoyed releases with Deep 8 Recordings, Slick Records, and Soulstar Records while operating his own label, now on its fifth release. “Devil In The Detail” is littered with stuttering vocals, crisp hats, and rapid fire claps over a jacking bass and quintessential chord stabs. “Just A Little Lower” finds most of its groove in the low end, with subtle synths placed like beacons guiding the listener forward. The two originals are extended mixing material, sure to find their fit layered with other deep house grooves.

Josh Caffe & David Newton - All Gone (feat. Fi McCluskey) (Get Up Recordings)

Get Up Recordings continues to bring the heat this summer with “All Gone”, the latest track from London’s Josh Caffe & David Newtron, featuring backing vocals from fellow Londoner Fi McCluskey. The release also includes remixes from veteran producers DJ Spun and Louie ‘Balo’ Guzman.

Josh Caffe is no stranger to Get Up Recordings. In 2013 he produced and released “Playing With The Maid” with Batty Bass head honcho Hannah Holland to much success. He is also no stranger to his fellow producer for this new single, David Newton. Josh and David have teamed up before to produce the double A-side track on Batty Bass Records, “As I Look” and “Let Love Ruin”. Josh is a prolific DJ in the London scene with two monthly parties in Dalston – one at the Ace Hotel and the other at Vogue Fabrics – and is no stranger to the Glastonbury, Lovebox, Farr Festival, and Summer Rites festivals. He has built a following with his trademark blend of self-assured bitch house, US house, and ghetto tech. David (a.k.a. Jeroen De Pessemier), an acclaimed synthpop musician, has toured the world with his band, The Subs. He has done remix work for La Roux, Alt J, Chemical Brothers, and Cassius, and has worked with and produced with such musicians as Azari & III, Philippe Zdar, Chat Blake, Etienne De Crécy, and Alex Gopher. This time they have enlisted the soulful powerhouse Fi McCluskey to turn out this silky smooth beautiful jam titled “All Gone”. Both Josh and Fi take turns with the vocals while the bass and keys get deep.

The remixes highlight what is beautiful about the track. It gets re-worked by two legendary DJ / producers, DJ Spun and Louie Balo. As a curator for seven years for MoMa / P.S.1’s Warm Up Series and the All Night Rong parties with DJ Harvey, few have contributed as much to the ongoing vitality of electronic music in NYC in the new millennium as Rong Music label owner DJ Spun. In addition to his own production, as well as with Mark Bell as Blackspun, he has remixed for such people as Gavin & Robbie Hardkiss and Douglas J. McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb. Spun takes “All Gone” and strips it down to a simple and beautiful late night deep house dub. The second remixer is long time legendary producer Louie ‘Balo’ Guzman. His list of original and remix production work is endless, from his own label Battlewax Recordings, to The Ride Committee, to his work with Roxy. With releases on such labels as Tribal America, Nite Grooves, Nervous, and Eightball Records to such anthems as “Get Huh”, his house sound is unmistakable. Louie reworks “All Gone” with his signature style by taking bits of the vocals and working them into a frenzy and finally unleashing them on the build up while keeping the mix down deep.

Quentin Harris - “That DJ Spun dub is crazy … I love it.”
Chris Fortier (Fade) - “This has got the soul.”
Robert Owens - “Beautiful track and mixes.”

Manny Cuevas (DJ M-TRAXXX / Afro Acid) - “Dope indeed … very Sound Factory sounding!”
Deron Delgado (Paradise / Stompy) - “I love all three mixes on this thing. Solid!”
Bobi (City Radio 94.7 FM, Skopje) - “So deep and so groovy … the perfect vibe for the clubs. I love it.”
Jean Jérome (Radio FG, Paris) - “That’s the groove, baby! Well done.”

Shake Machine - Eu Quero É House (Discobox Records)

The humble Brazilian party turned label Discobox Records is back again. Their vision involves re-imagining ’70s disco and the classic house sounds that followed with modern nu-disco and tech house sheen. The label acts as a natural extension of this, and their latest record marks the second release by Shake Machine, a new project by long time friends and veteran Brazilian house artists Daniel D and Robinho. After a well received debut single with support from artists like Miguel Migs, Horse Meat Disco, and Flash Atkins, the duo is back with "Eu Quero É House" and "Get Up."

The title song features a fat bass line, quickly becoming a characteristic of Shake Machine, along with groovy percussion and crispy synths. A funky vocal sample recorded by the duo itself, "eu quero é house" is Portuguese for "I want house" which mirrors the demanding response the Shake Machine has seen for the song in recent sets.

Exchanging moods with a more Italo-disco oriented vibe, "Get Up" uses complex drums with futuristic synth riffs and a female vocal sample. Another typical Shake Machine element is at play on this one: the breakdown uses a broken beat to transform the track into an exploration of funk fusion possibilities.

Remixing "Eu Quero É House", 294 Records owner Lucas Rezende makes his second appearance on Discobox and, as expected, delivers convincingly. Using only a few elements of the original, Lucas creates a totally different track with heavy bass lines, old-school drums, and 303 riffs - it's an acid flashback!

Vanilla Ace - “Good remix from Lucas Rezende.”
Robbie Hardkiss - “I’d dance to that … I dig it!”
Tommy Largo (Lost My Dog / Kolour) - “The Lucas Rezende remix for me … nice deep groove.”
Thee Cool Cats (Cuff / Get Physical) - “Nice one!”
Andrew Macari (Greenhouse / Tastie) - “Solid remix from Lucas Rezende! Great stuff.”
Severino (Horse Meat Disco) - “Fun!”
Tad Wily (Homebreakin / Retrofit) - “Ace single … I’m loving the originals and the Lucas Rozende remix, too.”
Tee Cardaci (Low Down Grooves / Sine Qua Non) - “Dope release from Discobox! Parabéns para os meus irmãos no Brasil … valeu!”
Snooba (Radio Panik, Belgium) - “Happy, euphoric, and contagious.”
Cherokee (Cherry Global Radio Show) - “Cool! Nice crisp production … these tracks make you bounce!”
Joey Silvero (Distant People) - “This one does not take any prisoners! Heavy all the way.”
Niksa Dragolin (Eurostar Radio, Croatia) - “Old school disco vibes with nice synths and very nice groove changes and breaks.”
Brewster Brigham (Hip Replacement Radio Show) - “Just gimmie that bass line!”
Sam Hopkins (AccuRadio, Chicago) - “Love this … pure, simple four-on-the-floor house that stomps!”

Thomas - Sexed Up (Whiskey Pickle)

Copenhagen, Denmark isn’t the first nation that comes to mind when contemplating summer, so it was of some shock to Whiskey Pickle when they stumbled upon the demo for "Sexed Up" from Thomas Erichsen, a Dane who simply goes by his no-frills first name, Thomas. Having already created steady waves with his disco outfit DATO and its eponymous record label, Erichsen’s debut solo outing continues the surge while epitomizing summertime. Breezy chords, silky arpeggios, and bittersweet strings make "Sexed Up" the soundtrack to an Ibizan sunset.

Tapped for remixes are San Francisco based duo Brother In Arms (J Boogie and Deejay Theory) plus Whiskey Pickle administrators RiCHARD.GEAR and Johnny Blackouts. Brother in Arms step up first, turning the tempo down with their Bay Area version. Strong R&B flavors permeate as the pair’s exquisite production chops shine beautifully in this modern take on classic Balearic. RiCHARD.GEAR comes through next with a stripped down house remix that channels vintage NYC flair whilst shuffling along with a confident bounce. Not to be outdone, Johnny Blackouts slides in just under the gun with his oozing, quicksand-paced, bass-laden remix. Utilizing a myriad of found samples and field recordings, the soothing sounds of children at play seeps in on top of a laid back 808 groove.

Simon Lee (Faze Action) - “Yeah, nice work! I’m liking the RiCHARD.GEAR remix.”
Tensnake - “The original is nice deep disco tune.”
Ursula 1000 - “Future summer yacht vibes galore.”

Tom Lown (Savoir Faire / Lost My Dog) - “The original is a glorious piece of work.”
Andreas Kinzl (Aromabar / INFRACom!) - “Balearic feelings!”
Al Bradley (3am Recordings / Fabric) - “Wicked stuff again from Whiskey Pickle. I’m really digging the original most here with its wicked deep and rolling beats, but I’m also digging the housey vibe of RiCHARD.GEAR’s mix and the ultra-sunset groove on Johnny Blackout’s mix. Top release all round.”
