Glass Slipper - Universal Love Vibe (Whiskey Pickle)

Whiskey Pickle Records is proud to welcome Austin-based vocal house duo Glass Slipper to their ever-impressive roster of artists. Comprised of producer BradElectro and former Real McCoy vocalist Lisa Cork-Twiss, the pair create an infectious, bubbly sound that oozes sophistication and positive vibes.

The lead cut, “Universal Love Vibe”, is a groovy, pulsating house joint that is right at home in the 21st century yet channels the authentic sound of Chicago’s heyday with characteristically pumping bass. Nylon Trax bossman Jaymz Nylon drops in and creates an earth shattering, percussive remix that fulfills the original's cosmic destiny with swirling synths. Meanwhile, Whiskey Pickle artist Zack Highwire takes listeners down a deep, dark wormhole into another dimension with spaced out, time warped effects.

“Caught Up” is a welcome addition to the package and showcases the exceptional talents of the duo. Skittering percussion and a choppy bass line swing confidently while Lisa’s soulful voice laments over tumultuous relationships. London’s own Black Magic Disco injects his signature garage-infused sound into his remix with a torrent of chord stabs. Johnny Blackouts then drops the tempo for his swerving DWI Dub, an arresting remake that’ll send the party grooving with the fuzz down at the precinct.

Codebase - Acid Nouveau (Roam Recordings)

Roam Recordings is known for representing the West Coast sound, spreading it out for all the world to hear. In that spirit, the label's latest offering comes from Seattle-based producer Tom Butcher, better known as Codebase, with a remix by longtime heavy hitter Pezzner (Systematic Recordings, Freerange Records). The EP captures a range of styles but keeps with the theme by which it's named: Acid Nouveau. The EP slows in pace as it progresses, but never eases up on the intensity. "The Last Time" starts things off with some acid of the moody, electro funk variety -- Egyptian Lover would approve -- completed by smooth, disillusioned vocal inflections from Codebase himself. The title track, "Acid Nouveau," continues this theme but takes it in a dubbier direction with additional heavy play on the pitch wheel of a bendy synth. "Electric Tea Garden" is a heavy, '80s disco chugger that is perfect for transporting listeners to another time, but through the hindsight of a modern sheen. Finishing off the release, Pezzner gives "The Last Time" a banging rework with extra bounce in the drums and a slurry of vocal effects, adding a complimentary head trip to the prerequisite ass shaking. This is one of those records primed to cross-pollinate many sets, offering standalone or transition pieces.

Sunshine Jones (Dubtribe) - “Um … amazing!”
Alland Byallo (Bad Animal / Third Ear Recordings) - “Pezzner remix all day.”
Nick Holder - “Fire!”
Chris Todd (Crazy P / Hot Toddy / 20:20 Vision) - “Both mixes of ‘The Last Time’ are really good.”
Daniel Bortz (Suol) - “The Pezzner remix is cool.”
Massimiliano Pagliara (Live At Robert Johnson) - “‘Electric Tea Garden’ is the one for me here … really nice!”
Jacques Renault (Runaway / DFA) - “Pezzner’s Native Language Reprise for me.”
Massimiliano Pagliara (Live At Robert Johnson) - “‘Electric Tea Garden’ is the one for me here … really nice!”
Chrissy Murderbot (Planet Mu) - “This is dope!”
Craig Stewart (Montana & Stewart / DCSTrax) - “Pezzner jam is very tasty and ‘Acid Nouveau’ is also hot.”
Al Bradley (3am Recordings / Fabric) - “More high-quality vibes from Roam … the slo-mo acid awesomeness of ‘Electric Tea Garden’ is simply brilliant.”
Tom Lown (Savoir Faire / Lost My Dog) - “Quality four tracker. Pezzner's remix is the one for me … proper building deep stuff.”
Bruce Tantum (Lowlife) - “Digging the jacking remix by Pezzner, the deep-meets-acid feel of ‘The Last Time’ original and ‘Acid Nouveau’ too, and the slo-mo synth disco of ‘Electric Tea Garden.’ Great release!"
Andrew Duke (Cognition Audioworks, Canada) - “Codebase never disappoints.”
Joey Silvero (Distant People) - “‘Acid Nouveau’ is crisp, clean funk with a nice touch of acid.” DJ Nova (Rodon FM 95, Greece) - “I like Codebase’s diversity. I think this is the EP of the month for me.”
DJ Red Eye (Beauty Bar / It'll Do Disco) - “Pezzner’s remix of ‘The Last Time’ had me desk voguing at the office … wonderful EP!"

Various Artists - Phono Obscura (Hallucienda)

Phono Obscura confidently charts the course of Hallucienda, the new imprint that is the evolution of Hallucination Limited, curated and collated by renowned DJ and trusted tastemaker Three. With an eclectic assortment of established names and future candidates from the electronic music globe, Phono Obscura’s nine tracks present a focused vision through artists that balance the need to push envelopes and the desire to fill dance floors. These producers represent the initial Hallucienda family, with future album artists rubbing shoulders with 12“ mercenaries. Opening on Lock Smith’s hypnotically oozing ”Wouldn’t You“, Phono Obscura proposes a dream-zone safe house in between the head space and the bass bin. As one forwards to Reverse Commuter’s ominous remix of ”History Is Not Shrinking“, by The Bystanders in collaboration with Mount Sims and Linda Lamb, and J. Alvarez’s vintage machine funk of ”Strut”, the sound and thematic binding string of Phono Obscura is clear. Other contributions from Wiggle’s Terry Francis, Sunshine Jones of Dubtribe, Radio Slave, Remi Mazet, Öona Dahl & Johnny Cruz, and NYC’s Ulysses further cement Phono Obscura’s status as a step above a mere compilation project. There is evidently a lot of thought and strategy in Three’s selection to accurately convey the message of Phono Obscura and its series, as this is just the first of many planned editions.

Gavin Hardkiss - "This is timeless music. A proper inquiry into the nuances of the darker side of house music."
James Zabiela - "'Strut', 'Dance Gravity', the Radio Slave remix, 'Oceans', 'The Sun' … all dope! Congrats on the new label"
Laurent Garnier - "I really love Lock Smith's 'Wouldn't You'. I'll be playing this a lot."
Soul Clap - "Wow, loving this compilation … Hallucienda 'til ya burn!"
Doc Martin - "I'm slightly biased towards these producers and grooves … a little something for the headstrong. Full support!"
Nick Warren - "Excellent compilation, guys. Some killers here!"
John Digweed - "Good stuff."
Peter Kruder - "Cool compilation with loads of good stuff on."
Greg Oreck (Thugfucker) - “I've been excitedly awaiting this reincarnation of Hallucination and even my high expectations have been exceeded. PHONO OBSCURA is a lot like Three himself. Sometimes deep, sometimes hard, often trippy, and always a sight for sore eyes / ears when you're about four days into an after-party that doesn't seem like it will ever end. We'll surely be playing every single one of these tracks and I honestly can't remember any other compilation I could have said that about. Quality stuff from a quality source. And a great and diverse collection of sounds and artists that we'll be definitely waiting to hear more from."

Ato Rodriguez - Walking On Dholpur (Handmade Recordings)

Handmade Records has picked up Ato Rodriguez, a new artist from Madrid, Spain. Further fueling an early passion for music from his time spent at a young age enrolled in the conservatory, Ato eventually solidified his interest in electronic music by way of late '90s Madrid clubs. Over a decade of Ato honing his skills behind the decks has informed his very personal production style with clear influences from tried and true North American sounds peaking at the end of the '90s and beginning of the noughties. These moments in time are captured by his blend of house, funk, disco, and electro, all molded to today's pace whether solo or as half of Photone74.

His debut release for the label, "Walking On Dholpur", incorporates NY house hand percussion, deep and dubby techno stabs, guttural bass, and elements of minimal sound design. It's in the short moments of energetic outburst, and in the lead synth keys later introduced, that one of Ato's inspirations -- Danny Tenaglia -- is made ever-so-clear. Braulio Motus, a Filipino-born turned NY and San Fran raver transplant, fattens up Ato's work in his remix, creating a slower, heavier, and more menacing groove. The other original on this release, "Greg Chicago", layers the same note sequence of different instruments on top of each other, all from the starting foundation of a bass line. As the track progresses, it builds with a piano that slowly disappears into a more synthetic lead. It balances out the release with a light playfulness.

Orde Meikle (Slam / Soma) - "Cool grooves."

Adam Collins (Euphoria Records) - “Late night vibe on the Braulio Motus remix.”
