Futureworlder - Just Let It All Go (Whiskey Pickle)

Whiskey Pickle puts out a solid installment of psychoactive house with Brian Traister’s otherworldly Just Let It All Go EP. As Futureworlder, Traister gives a taste of the alternative planet of his imagination. The Brooklyn-based DJ and producer’s escape unfolds like the unforeseen house expression of a new age past.

The hazy sun rises over the horizon mirrored in the water as the opener “Forever” begins, awash with warm synths lapping at the shore while revelers weary from the night before are summoned by the steady rhythm of the kick drum to give it another go, tempted by the rising hi-hats and chunky bassline, dancing in the warm sand, only coming down midstream to cool off in the surf and then dance some more in the rising sun. “Energie” follows, quoting an old school, lush deep house flavor complete with warm, enveloping pads and echoing percussion. “I believe good can only bring good,” says the voice on the third offering “Altruism,” and repeats like the clear memory of a party-worn dancer whose flood of endorphins makes him philosophical, hopeful, and unreserved. The voice comes and goes, like a flashback after the night is over, powerful for a few moments, playing on a loop with psychedelic waves that swell and recede over a house beat. “Just Let It All Go” rounds things out, merging a chunkier rhythm section with hypnotic, shimmering synth arpeggiations and swirling strings.”

JV featuring Quinton Xavier - Every Time (Harmonious Discord)

Everyday connections, moments in space and time.
When you have a piece of my heart, it’s every time …

Harmonious Discord Recordings is excited to welcome back soul-specialist JV (AKA Jason Vasilas) with “Every Time,” a special project featuring vocalist Quinton Xavier. The duo offer a modern-day love song filled with passion and emotion, and set to the rhythm of a well-tempered tech house production. The combination is likely to be coined an instant classic. Remixes come courtesy of the versatile HD veteran Dorian and Hands Free (Akbal, My Favorite Robot, Connoisseur).

The original of “Every Time” presents a dreamy vision of poetic passion by balancing the vocals with thoughtfully constructed synthesizers and reversed effects. Frequencies swirl and build as Quinton’s vocals reach their peak and dulcet tones culminate with periodic fills to propel the momentum onward. Dorian’s remix wipes the dream-state away offering flavors of disco-era drums alongside classic house synths. Quinton’s vocals are in the forefront with penetrating vocal modulation. Musically rich and percussively precise, Dorian’s remix is poised to be a defining moment for mixed sets. Hands Free dives deep offering two versions of his subversive interpretation. Dissonant, unsettling sounds fill the cavernous space created by this slow burn. Hypnotic and ritualistic, the Hands Free mixes provide rumbling percussion and reverberated artifacts that cascade into pensive melodic harp accents and broad sweeping swells. There’s a mood for all occasions in this package.

Nick Warren (The Soundgarden) – “Very cool mixes from Hands Free.”

Geliks - Indeed (Cold Busted)

Geliks floats across Europe, mysterious and elusive, landing in the Cold Busted inbox with a captivating album titled Indeed. There is no telling who Geliks is or what Geliks wants, but with Indeed the unidentified artist covertly drops 11 captivating tracks that give lovers of tough beats just what they need. Indeed!

The set opens with “2376 Broadway,” imagining a dramatic moment soundtracked by sweeping strings, soulful vocals, and beats for days. It’s catchy as hell, too. There’s also the hypnotic “Paper Plane,” combining lonesome piano, jazzy stand-up bass, and strange musique concrète shuffles. “Ball Flip” is another highlight, boldly mixing hip hop flavors with clanging bell melodies and some terrific rock guitar.
