Michael Manahan - Broke The Time Clock (Uniting Souls Music)

Seattle's Uniting Souls Music welcomes back Michael Manahan to the fold with his rapturous new single Broke The Time Clock. Manahan has been active in the northwest US scene for over twenty years, co-founding the Oracle Gatherings and producing the Cascadia NW Arts & Music Festival, two well-established North American dance music events. his first single for Uniting Souls, "Regulate The Deep," introduced many dancefloors to his flavor of deep house — and this latest cut will undoubtedly expand this audience.

"Broke The Time Clock" swirls with gated chords, synth builds, an angelic vocal calling from deep in the track, and bass-heavy rhythms. The vibe is spacey and cosmic, accentuated by a futuristic vocoder breakdown. On the remix side, Florida's Atnarko (Infiltr8:Celebr8) delivers a version that begins hypnotically, with percussive chimes and pulsing pads implying the passing of the moments. A chunky rhythm pushes the vibe in motion as sonic layers and trippy treatments shimmer in the mix. Jamie Schwabl (Wulfpack, Hunt & Gather) pulls things even deeper with an evocative minimal rerub that features amazing sound design and atmosphere. And the duo of Jordan Strong & Knoe1, no strangers to Uniting Souls, have the final say with a remix that draws on the fabled West Coast Sound and puts their distinctive spin on it. These tunes are ready for immediate late night deployment!

Patchen - Southwest Passage (Harmonious Discord)

Harmonious Discord founding family member and fantastical frontiersman Patchen Preston returns to the label for his long-anticipated album, Southwest Passage. Coalescing material life events into a sonic journey for the deep-minded, Patchen is a master at making the simple textures resonate and evolve. His album is a great immersion into his unique sound. Patchen focuses on influences of dub, ambient, and house practices while keeping a dignified abstraction present throughout. Southwest Passage is the embodied story of this journey, ready to take you along.

The album features dulcet lullabies like “Chime Garden” and “Salinas” that apply the primer while “Wide Eyes” and “Side Quests” quickly float into dub territory with subtle introductions of percussive constructs. “Navigator” acts a bridge into dark thickets utilizing droning and pulsating synth constructions. The following “End of the Beginning” and “Night Skies” serve as full proper late-night excursions tempering the concerns between deep listening and body shaking. “Quagmire” ascends as a quick ambient reprise, while “Techno Tony” and “Lady Peso’s Afternoon” showcase Patchen’s signature slow-burn, house-inspired brand. “Office Life” offers a quick surprise, cranking up the tempo and lightening the mood. “Chapters to Come” drifts the listener into deep night surrender as a blissful reminder of the care and depth baked into this journey.

Casomado - Pomelo (Friskybeat Records)

Miguel Leiva is Casomado, a producer and DJ based in Montreal who draws influence from his early like in South America as well as the varied history of music over the past five decades. His multi-faceted house music sound moves feet and souls alike, and shines on his latest release, “Pomelo.” This adventurous afro-house delight comes equipped with three fresh mixes.

The driving force and inspiration for “Pomelo” is its loose percussion. Layered shakers and hand drum provide a rhythmic foundation for the bouncing bass line. Psychedelic textures, synth pads and melodies, and a playful vocal sample expand the depth of “Pomelo,” giving the tune a place in the headspace as well as the dance floor. A sparser Dub Version accentuates the main drum part, and the Radio Version puts the focus on the vocal hook’s interplay within the mix. Top notch!

Tom Lown (Lucky Sun Recordings) – “This is nice. Proper deep grooves.”
Ken Liu (Headset Hi-Fi) – “The dub version for me! I just get lost in it.”
Salah Sadeq (The Crate Radio Show) – “Nice. Will play on my radio show.”
Jaymz Nylon (Nylon Recordings) – “This is my kinda shit.”
Michael Fossati (Spirit of House Web Zine) – “Downright Mesmerizing.”
Dean Serafini (Frisky Rhythms) – “Love the deep groove and the heavy bass. This deserves to do well!”
Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle radio show) – “Yeah. This is really nice. The Dub version is doing it for me.”

Dj Sulli - I'll Do Anything For You (Hype & Soul)

Hype & Soul Recordings returns with DJ Sulli’s mesmerizing new single “I’ll Do Anything For You.” The west coast house music virtuoso delivers two evocative versions of the original, and then brings on the renowned Andrew Macari (Toka Project) to add more magic to the release. First up is Sulli’s One Night In Paris Mix, combining subdued e-piano chords, swirling sound design, effected female vocals, and punchy rhythms for some serious late night action. This is followed by Sulli’s Breakin Beats Rerub, going even deeper with a touch a tech-house added to this tripped-out mix. A growling bass, ethereal pads, and intertwined vocal parts are all driven by a handclap rhythm. Midway through the breakbeats come in, taking things to another level.

Andrew Macari confirms his acclaim as a top house music producer with his Toka Love Remix. A swinging 4-on-the-floor beat and deep sub-bass lay the foundation for snatches of the vocal and a pulsating chord motif. Andrew’s accompanying Toka Love Dub further explores the rhythm, giving the DJs out there a cool tool for long mixing adventures. Another superb pack from Hype & Soul.

DJ P-REZ (Not So Fast Records) – “Yes! I've always dug DJ Sulli's work. Hell, I still play Saucy Posse out. This track is just as great. Throw in an Andrew Macari remix, and you've got yourself a winning release.”
