Jacob Poe & DJ Samuel Lawrence - Vol. 2 (R Side Recordings)

From the southern wilds of Oregon comes R Side Recordings, a house music label representing hard working blue collar beats and DJs. R Side's second release is a split single featuring Jacob Poe (Radda Records) and DJ Samuel Lawrence (Uniting Souls, WeJack) each dropping a floor-ready original and remixing each other's track. Jacob Poe starts things off with "Whisper Softly," a deep cut with tech-subtlety. Cut-up vocals, swirling pads, and tight rhythms combine into a smooth late night treat. DJ Samuel Lawrence then remixes "Whisper Softly," raising the tempo and adding a pinch of techno. Bubbling arpeggiations and percussive effects build out the flow. Flip the virtual wax for DJ Samuel Lawrence's "Late Nite Aoili," a dubby, drum-driven adventure for the dance floor complete with rousing sub-bass, spicy vocal drops, and a dramatic mid-section breakdown. Then it's Jacob Poe's turn on the remix, bending "Late Night Aoili" into a hypnotic afterhours groover. A huge grimy bass line fills the sonic palette, rounded out with soulful vocal hits, expressive stabs and pad swells, and a crisp rhythm track. Massive.

Alvaro Hylander (DeepWit Recordings) – “Hard to choose between both remixes. great stuff! will play on my radio show.”
Matt Prehn (Oh So Coy) – “It’s all about Jacob Poes Bassline.”

Onium - Recombinant (Harmonious Discord)

The new year calls for the return of the deep-minded dub master Onium to the Harmonious Discord label. A core part of the label sound engine, Onium has showcased an impressive evolution, adding depth and precision with every project. The Recombinant EP represents peak levels of the mastery for this artist and the label's brought in Puresine, Space Scavengers, and Floating Machine in support of this very special frosty project.

Never one to start with flair, Onium guides us gently into a sonically rich tapestry called “Dubsect”. Rumbling bass trios and perfectly controlled synth accents sit in even space in this expertly timed introduction. Puresine enters next to navigate "Dubsect" into dancefloor territory, upping the pace and introducing edgier elements. The introduction of frosted chord stabs and devilish bass responses targets this remix for late night territories as it moves ever-forward with intensity. The next original is a collaboration between Onium and Greek duo Space Scavengers. Stepping back from the intensity in the previous Puresine remix, “Shimmer and Shine” is a beautifully tempered slow burn. Complete with dancing pad interplays and screaming background textures, this selection gives the shimmer of a profound elevated experience. On remix duties for “Shimmer and Shine” is the multi-talented KiloWatts. Instead of reduxing and remixing the original, KiloWatts breaks down each shade and builds it all back up in this sexy space opera that sits somewhere between breaks and techno. "Point of Balance" pairs Onium with Puresine in a characteristic amalgam of their respective sounds. Brighter than your average Onium piece but still tempering and controlling all aspects methodically. Floating Machine plunges right into the depths with his often aquatic, silky textures — a revision of the original that crosses purposes between techno relevance and deep house philosophy.

Tony H (Dirtybird) – “These remixes are dope!”
Tyler Stadius (Deepsite) – “Really good, spacey tracks.”
Tolis Q (Quantized Music) – “Really nice release here. Loving the deep vibes.”
Taigo Onez (Bang Le’ Dex) – “This is wonderful, what a great release. Full support.”
Dave Noonan (Circulation Radio Show) – “Some good dubby soundscapes.”
Jon Fugler (XLNT radio show) – “Solid production throughout. The KiloWatts remix is the one for me, with the exceptional outro.”

Michael Manahan - Broke The Time Clock (Uniting Souls Music)

Seattle's Uniting Souls Music welcomes back Michael Manahan to the fold with his rapturous new single Broke The Time Clock. Manahan has been active in the northwest US scene for over twenty years, co-founding the Oracle Gatherings and producing the Cascadia NW Arts & Music Festival, two well-established North American dance music events. his first single for Uniting Souls, "Regulate The Deep," introduced many dancefloors to his flavor of deep house — and this latest cut will undoubtedly expand this audience.

"Broke The Time Clock" swirls with gated chords, synth builds, an angelic vocal calling from deep in the track, and bass-heavy rhythms. The vibe is spacey and cosmic, accentuated by a futuristic vocoder breakdown. On the remix side, Florida's Atnarko (Infiltr8:Celebr8) delivers a version that begins hypnotically, with percussive chimes and pulsing pads implying the passing of the moments. A chunky rhythm pushes the vibe in motion as sonic layers and trippy treatments shimmer in the mix. Jamie Schwabl (Wulfpack, Hunt & Gather) pulls things even deeper with an evocative minimal rerub that features amazing sound design and atmosphere. And the duo of Jordan Strong & Knoe1, no strangers to Uniting Souls, have the final say with a remix that draws on the fabled West Coast Sound and puts their distinctive spin on it. These tunes are ready for immediate late night deployment!
