Michael Manahan - Broke The Time Clock (Uniting Souls Music)

Seattle's Uniting Souls Music welcomes back Michael Manahan to the fold with his rapturous new single Broke The Time Clock. Manahan has been active in the northwest US scene for over twenty years, co-founding the Oracle Gatherings and producing the Cascadia NW Arts & Music Festival, two well-established North American dance music events. his first single for Uniting Souls, "Regulate The Deep," introduced many dancefloors to his flavor of deep house — and this latest cut will undoubtedly expand this audience.

"Broke The Time Clock" swirls with gated chords, synth builds, an angelic vocal calling from deep in the track, and bass-heavy rhythms. The vibe is spacey and cosmic, accentuated by a futuristic vocoder breakdown. On the remix side, Florida's Atnarko (Infiltr8:Celebr8) delivers a version that begins hypnotically, with percussive chimes and pulsing pads implying the passing of the moments. A chunky rhythm pushes the vibe in motion as sonic layers and trippy treatments shimmer in the mix. Jamie Schwabl (Wulfpack, Hunt & Gather) pulls things even deeper with an evocative minimal rerub that features amazing sound design and atmosphere. And the duo of Jordan Strong & Knoe1, no strangers to Uniting Souls, have the final say with a remix that draws on the fabled West Coast Sound and puts their distinctive spin on it. These tunes are ready for immediate late night deployment!

Jordan Strong & Tony H feat. Ramiro - Be See Seek (Uniting Souls Music)

Over the past two decades, Uniting Souls founder Ramiro has become known, in the words of the Seattle Weekly, as "an inextinguishable accelerant of Seattle's house community.” He celebrates this by closing out 2020 with label veterans Jordan Strong and Tony H for “Be See Seek.” This rousing deep house track is a call to rise above the fray of these trying times. As the rhythms mesmerize, Ramiro repeats an inspiring mantra: “Be the light, see the love, seek connection, invite unity, feel peace, embrace freedom, and share the gift.” Meanwhile, Jordan and Tony provide tough, crisp production with a distinctive west coast flavor. Hand percussion, dubbed out effects, a guiding bass line, and sparse synth melodies round out this driving cut.

Jordan and Tony also deliver the Sunset Tech Mix and the Acid Unity Mix, both giving sublime variations on the original, hinted at stylistically in their mix titles. Then, for a quartet of remixers, Uniting Souls scoured the west coast for talent. Vancouver’s Sean Dimitrie (Bombay Records) offers a spacey and deep version that with cool keys and hypnotic bell-like tones. There’s a bass-heavy stomper from California’s Knoe1 (Rong Music) and a punchy prime-time tech take from George JJ Flores. The single closes with a remixed version by Seattle’s DYR, increasing the dubbiness for a late-night deep house excursion. As always, Uniting Souls keeps it real.

Onionz - Space Slave (Uniting Souls Music)

The latest release on respected Seattle house music imprint Uniting Souls features New York house music legend Onionz. Label founder Ramiro goes way back with Onionz, with the two becoming friends in San Francisco during the heyday of the '90s scene. This EP Is a reunion of sorts, rekindling the creative energies shared between these two house music pioneers for almost two decades.

Onionz's contribution is the cosmically titled "Space Slave" – perhaps a reference to a certain metal-bikini'd intergalactic princess? – and it's a sublime excursion into beat-driven deep tech house. The track builds masterfully over its seven minutes, with echoed arpeggiations and groovy rhythmic elements pulsing in and out of the mix. "Space Slave" is then punctuated by the emergence of a moody, psychedelic synth melody at its peak, evoking the feeling of space travel via the dance floor.

The release also unites vibes from coast to coast, with remixers from three different corners of the US. Seattle's Pezzner opens up proceedings with a haunting feel, displaying his expert combination of beats and atmospheric textures. Pezzner has also supplied a second version of his mix, featuring a subtle shuffle at a slightly speedier tempo. Next up is Los Angeles producer duo Knoe1 and Jordan Strong (a Uniting Souls resident since 1998) delivering a chugging warehouse vibed rework perfectly suited for the after hours. Brian Busto, of Florida's Serious Soul crew, then turns in a dark-as-night remix of "Space Slave", filled with throbbing bass, ominous soundscapes, and crisp machine rhythms. The release closes with San Diego's Jason Tokita whose hypnotic treatment of the track goes deep, and includes some dialogue snippets captured from distant orbit.

Nick Warren - "It's all about the original for me."
Ian Pooley - "Dope Pezzner remix!"
Dubfire - "Cool stuff."

John Debo (Mindwarp Records) - "The original is the one. Love the sequenced melodies and the strings. Really nice builds."
