Ursula 1000 - Gimme A Sign feat. Emma Noble (Insect Queen Music)

New York's Ursula 1000, the wizard of the retro/futuro sound, is back with his Single of the Month Club series! Ursula was riding high off the fumes from his chart-topping 2019 album Esoterique, but with the world on pause last year, Ursula got cracking, working his unique continental pop sound for a new batch of goodies. Now every first Monday of the month brings a new offering from Ursula's music laboratory. Next up from the Single Of The Month Club is the funky mid-tempo groover "Gimme A Sign" featuring London's very own Emma Noble. With a soul-inspired vocal, Emma delivers a modern, uplifting, party shaker — a fantastic funk stomper with a glorious pastiche of sonic elements inspired by dance music of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and beyond. Emma's signed with Cosmos Music and has worked with Acid Jazz Records, Lack of Afro, and spins records all over the UK and Europe as one half of the dynamic DJ duo Noble & Heath. These grooves are fierce!

Cyrus - Tribute To The Master (Smooth Agent Records)

Cyrus is an exciting new trio featuring Carmello Guarnera AKA Mello, da.loca, and Sean Smith AKA The Smooth Agent. They’ve come together to forge an organic twist on electronic dance music, building off sounds and traditions of the past to push Cyrus’s music into the future. This mission couldn’t be better expressed than on their new single, “Tribute to the Master,” which pays homage to Fela Kuti, the Nigerian King of Afrobeat. Featuring vocalist Tosha Marie, the song includes pounding layers of rhythm, melodic horns, staccato guitar, gliding electric piano chords, and Tosha’s expressive, soulful voice. It’s a rousing affair.

Four fantastic remixes back “Tribute to the Master,” starting with the Tribute Groove Mix from David Harness (Moulton Music, Vega). Focusing on the magic of the musical instrumentation, Harness lays down a deep kick drum that guides his version into dancefloor bliss. Sean Smith (The Smooth Agent) is next, paring down the track a touch but still keeping the rhythmic interplay and Tosha’s lovely vocals. Welsh DJ/producer Paul Lyons (Quantize, Marivent Music) gets in the tribal zone with his deep Tribe Vibe mix, and Cleveland’s Karu (Intimate Venues) transforms “Tribute to the Master” into a sleek late night groover. This pack is filled with exquisite, Afro-inspired sounds, all ready for DJ deployment.

Soulfuledge (Quantize) – “Sublime stuff from David Harness on here. This one’s definitely for me.”
DJ Pope (Poji Records) – “This entire package is hot.”
Col Lawton (Deep Fix Recordings) – “David’s remix is sooo nice.”
Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle radio show) – “Wonderful remixes celebrating a legend. The Karu mix is my fave. Full support.”
DJ Jazzy L (Jazzy Lounge Radio) – “It only took a couple bars before my feet started moving. On Point.”
Michael Fossati (Spirit of House web zine) – “An expertly crafted and truly amazing tribute.”

The Deli - Spacetime (Cold Busted)

Austin’s acclaimed hip-hop beatrepreneur The Deli embraces the celestial on his latest album, Spacetime. After the massive success of his album Vibes 3, its follow-up Jazz Cat, and the infectious track “Flowers” (over 50-million plays on Spotify so far), there’s been anticipation for his next long-player for Cold Busted. Look to the skies — Spacetime arrives like a cosmic gravity wave, sonic transmissions soundtracking happenings out among the stars. Load these tunes up for the next space mission and prepare to cruise.

Spacetime opens with “welcome2space,” bringing a sense of weightlessness with gentle piano chords and a sparse rhythm. “paracausalzone” lightly boosts the thrusters, with shimmering pads and unidentified percussion objects. There’s a perilous journey through the “astroidbelt” accompanied by jazzy, muted horns and languid beats; and a visit to the “spacecafe” where sub-bass with a side of vibes is on the menu. Spacetime is a 17-track mission, closing with the imaginative “goodbyelullabye.” On this final cut, bouncing bass blips, smooth synth lines, and stereo glimmers welcome our spacefaring listener back to Earth. But these galactic beats make a repeated returns to orbit quite inviting.

Anatoly Ice (Icebound) – “Very cool fusion of chill and dubby J Dilla kind of swing.”
Al Patterson (Vinyl Athletes) – “The Deli always delivers the heat.”
DJ Osric (Black and Blue Show) – “This is sensational. The Deli never fails to bring the goods, and this is up there with his best work.”
Andy Wilson (Ibiza Sonica) – “Top quality head nodding beats. This is dope.”
Aja Allsop (Ketch A Vibe Radio Show) – “This is just our bag. We love it!”
Matt Sonzala (Radio KAOS) – “This dude is amazing. Been a fan for a while now and always happy to hear new jams from him. Excellent!”
