Jason Merle - The Love I Get feat. Devoya Mayo (Johnny Fiasco Remixes)

Picture the scene. It's early morning (5am? 7am?) on Miami beach during WMC. The location is somewhere around 15th and Collins. It's been a long night, some friends have been out all night, DJ'ing and hitting the parties. The sun is fully up, and it must already be 87 degrees out. The only thing on their mind is getting back to the hotel for some rest. Cab after cab after cab rolls by, not a single one will stop to pick them up. One of the revelers decides to take action, walking in to the middle of the road, desperate, holding his hands up to stop a cab, and the rest is history. They eventually made it back to their destination. Names have been withheld to protect the innocent, but we will say it’s this setting that inspired the Johnny Fiasco’s Cab Stopper Remix of "The Love I Get " from Jason Merle on Viva Recordings. The track also features vocalist Devoya Mayo on vocals, and two more slightly more subdued (but still hot enough for Miami) remixes, The Deep Dub and the Deep Dub Instrumental. If you can take the heat, c’mon in.

Station Point - Alcyone EP (Harmonious Discord)

SF Bay Area multi-modal artist Station Point (Chakharta, JDN) is known for creating rugged but precise dub-laden melodies. A maestro of complex rhythmic pattern builds, Station Point returns to Harmonious Discord to deliver a well-rounded two-tracker with hints of psychedelic flare and urban tones. Joining the project are HD label boss PointBender and prolific pad inventor Patchen with two unique variations on the supremely delightful originals.

The EP begins with "Babombicz", a syncopated joyride saddled by pitchy arps and cacophonous drum fills. The track evolves, diving deeper into melodic interplays driven by bells that culminate into a trance-like state. Patchen reimagines the colorful playground of "Babombicz" with his signature swung drum components, briefly interrupted by glitchy sound design moments. The remix quickly moves into a forward-leaning acid melody that delivers increased movement and ramps up the energy. "Alcyone Chorus" shifts the listener into a more laid-back reprise, with expertly-crafted reversed swells and tension-building pad construction. The beautiful melodic moments are tempered perfectly with the emerging acid lead and live drum accents. A late-arriving sub bass ensures that one will truly feel this on the dancefloor. PointBender reengineers "Alcyone Chorus" as a messy but lush electro remix with homages to early Random Factor/Carl Finlow releases. The syncopation of the electro patterns with the layered pad abstractions adds an element of euphoria, a great remix to get lost inside. With more on the roadmap from Station Point, Harmonious Discord is excited to introduce you to the maneuvering styles of this conscious creator.

Jon Fugler (Fluke) – “All strong tracks - both originals showing some real quality in the programming - and the electro strings of the PointBender mix is a joy.”
Richard Hardcastle (Solid State) – “Great EP. I love Patchen’s glitchy version in particular.”
Sandro Bianchi (Ibiza Sonica) – “This is amazing!”
DJ Firefly (Couch Dancing) – “Love the subtle hypnotic details. Great stuff.”
Jon Lemmon (Different Channels on KBFG) – “Love the lush vibes on Alcyone Chorus. I’ll get this some airplay!”
Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle Radio Show) – “Wonderful stuff here. PointBenders remix is beautiful. Loving Patchen’s twisting acid trip too.”

Andrew Macari - Blind Energy (Viva Recordings)

Veteran deep house DJ/producer Andrew Macari returns to Viva Recordings with another new single, Blind Energy. Andrew’s discography is wide, recording for classic imprints like Large Music, Afterhours, Greenhouse, and Nordic Trax. He has also recorded cuts as part of Toka Project, Filter Flow, and Guided Methods, and presently releases jackin' tracks under the alias Greenbay Jackers.

“Blind Energy” opens the single with a tough kick drum rhythm that softens with the addition of chiming chords and crisp snares. A rolling bass line and deep background pads further a dreamy atmosphere, while spoken word vocals coax the listener to ponder the true essence of energy and ideas. True to Andrew’s classic house music sound, “When I Want,” has cryptic voices and swishing textures floating around another one of signature bass grooves. Great vibes all around from Andrew Macari … don’t miss out.

Jay Zimmerman (Red Melon) – “Great to hear new material from Andrew on Viva. Both tracks are versatile with a relentless groove. Just in time to play them out in Tokyo!”
Juan Mejia (Dutchie Music) – “Blind Energy is a nice, solid jam. Will play in Miami.”
DJ P-REZ (Not So Fast Records) – “Yes! Andrew does it again. Excellent work.”
Thomas Blondet (Rhythm & Culture) – “Proper deep house.”
Frank Situation (BRS) – “Great house music. Gonna play these in the next BRS set.”
BrianSD (DanceGruv Radio) – “Mr. Macari at it again! Blind Energy is a solid deep chugger that kept my head bobbin’ from start to finish.”

Juan Hoerni feat. Terry Dexter - Stuck In The Middle (Cha Cha Project Recordings)

Once again, Los Angeles house music don Juan Hoerni joins forces with singer Terry Dexter for another uplifting slice of dancefloor bliss. "Stuck in the Middle," released on Juan's Cha Cha Project Recordings imprint, features immaculate performances from both the players — including Scott Wozniak on keys — and Terry Dexter. The accumulation of soulful expertise helps to welcome the warm summer air as things heat up on the floor. A disco-accented rhythm section drives electric piano chords and swirling organ riffs, laying down the perfect musical bed for Terry Dexter's emotive, memorable vocal performance. Top-notch all around.

The legendary Jovonn, an undisputed pioneer of the '90s' NYC/New Jersey house music sound, is on hand for a trio of prime-time remixes. Jovonn's Main Mix toughens the rhythm and accompanies it with a staccato synth bass line. The vocal is solidly at the fore, with the organ and key melodies providing support. Jovonn also supplies a Dub version of this mix, as well as a Stripdown Mix. The latter really shows off Terry Dexter's incredible vocal, pushing it further up in the mix while downplaying most of the keyboard elements. Superb all around.

Hector Romero (Def Mix) – “Right on. I’m feeling this. Nice one to all involved.”
Frank Situation (Situation) – “This is deep fire! Great work.”
Brad Eller (Glass Slipper) – “Right up my alley! Love the vocal, and Scott’s keys are dope as always.”
Michael Fossati (Spirit of House) – “What a paramount release.”
Edground (Brazillian Soul Crew) – “This is an amazing release. All mixes are perfect.”
Niall Redmond (The Digital Groove) - “Nice vibes on this release, Classy.”
