Jason Merle - The Love I Get feat. Devoya Mayo (Johnny Fiasco Remixes)

Picture the scene. It's early morning (5am? 7am?) on Miami beach during WMC. The location is somewhere around 15th and Collins. It's been a long night, some friends have been out all night, DJ'ing and hitting the parties. The sun is fully up, and it must already be 87 degrees out. The only thing on their mind is getting back to the hotel for some rest. Cab after cab after cab rolls by, not a single one will stop to pick them up. One of the revelers decides to take action, walking in to the middle of the road, desperate, holding his hands up to stop a cab, and the rest is history. They eventually made it back to their destination. Names have been withheld to protect the innocent, but we will say it’s this setting that inspired the Johnny Fiasco’s Cab Stopper Remix of "The Love I Get " from Jason Merle on Viva Recordings. The track also features vocalist Devoya Mayo on vocals, and two more slightly more subdued (but still hot enough for Miami) remixes, The Deep Dub and the Deep Dub Instrumental. If you can take the heat, c’mon in.

Sean Dimitrie (Bombay Records) – “Oh snap Johnny is "getting busy" on this, sweet! New Classic!”
Frank Amodo (Barefoot Beats) – “Jason Merle with Johnny Fiasco remixes? Life just got better.”
DJ Harri (Sub Club) – “Nice to hear from Johnny here. Lovely stuff!”
Sandro Bianchi (Ibiza Sonica) – “Amazing remixes here.”
Dr. Best (Radio Z 95.8, Germany) – “A nice release. All three versions are right up my alley.”
Jon Fugler (XLNT radio show) – “A rare 5/5 star rating. Quite simply faultless as a piece of classic dance.”

Usmev feat. Camilla Luna - A Reason To Dance (Bogota Records)

On the latest Bogota Records release, longtime label collaborator Usmev joins forces with vocalist Camilla Luna for an evocative two-tracker that also features an upfront remix by none other than Johnny Fiasco. A conservatory-trained pianist and guitarist, Usmev is no stranger to Bogota having appeared on the imprint’s debut release, ‘Themes’. Uruguayan-Norwegian vocalist Camilla Luna is known as one-half of Luna & Bazis on WahWah45s and vocalist for Trulz & Robin’s releases on Eskimo and Dance Disorder’s “Metallic Italic” (Bpitch Control). With “You’ll Find Your Reason To Dance” Camilla is heard for the first time on Bogota, accompanying the warm, deep house tones found in Usmev’s production. The sound is underground and somewhat cavernous, imagining hazy late nights and dreamy excursions. Camilla’s vocals are layered and effected, simultaneously soulful and enigmatic. The b-side, “Maybe This Is Love”, is a comparatively uptempo affair with a more refined drum track and vocal line in the midst of shimmering chords. Camilla’s vocal performance is especially intoxicating here. As a bonus, Chicago legend Johnny Fiasco is on board with another in his stream of masterfully club-primed remixes (and his second for Bogota Records). “You’ll Find Your Reason To Dance” is given extra momentum, as the bass line is moved the fore and the rhythm track gets a dose of Chi-town floor funk. These three cuts continue Bogota Records’ run of distinctive high-quality singles.

Mr. V (Sole Channel Music) – “Johnny kills it!”
Lee Guthrie (Click Therapy / Wiggle) – “Johnny Fiasco Remix all the way for me here.”
Satoshi Fumi (Outerspace radio show / Klik Records) – “Massive!”
Craig Stewart (Montana & Stewart) – “The original of ‘You’ll Find The Reason’ is very tasty.”
Edground (Grooveland Music) – “I’ll play this for sure.”
Sumsusch (Colour and Pitch) – “Johnny Fiasco remix is lovely.”
Hard Ton (Toy Tronics) – “The original version is the one for me.”
DJ Firefly (Couch Dancing) – “Great release. Very fresh.”
DJ Nova (Nova Planet Radio Show) – “Camilla Luna’s soulful vocals are giving a mutli-dimensional sound to the release, making it far from just a typical underground release.”
Hober Mallow (Mighty Real) – “Solid mixes right through here. I’m liking the B side a lot too … great voice and vibe on this one! Sweet, moody and soulful.”

Ivaylo - Future Past (The Remixes) (Bogota Records)

Norwegian deep house label Bogota Records considers Ivaylo's Future Past (The Remixes) the end of 'phase one.' The label has issued six fantastic releases, making some serious waves in the house music community with its signature lush, dreamy, rhythmic sound. This seventh issue from Bogota returns to the output of flagship artist Ivaylo, the Bulgaria-born DJ based in Oslo. Future Past (The Remixes) is notable, as the title unintentionally hints, in that it draws upon label tracks from previous releases, giving them new remixed interpretations laying out the direction of the label. An impressive cadre of house music talent from around the world is on board to supply these remixes, making this an essential release.

Let's delve right into it. Dalminjo (Limestone Recordings, Papa Records) offers a sophisticated remix of "Forgotten", featuring pleasant string lines and lovely tuned percussion. Famed Philadelphian Pete Moss (Ovum Records) brings a funky tech-house aesthetic to "Outlands", with a solid bass and drum interplay perfectly tailored for the dance floor. Legendary Chicago house music don Johnny Fiasco (Klassik Fiasco) lays on the heavy swing for his interpretation of "Weight", and takes things well into the deep zone with splashes of chiming pads and a touch of vocoder. Out of Bulgaria comes Ivaylo's mates, the duo Sound Solutions (Adultempo Specialists) who blend swirling arpeggiations and ominous echoed synth stabs into their revision of "Shine". Demarkus Lewis (Grin Music), the tall Texas house music veteran, slaps on some tough rhythms, some 303-ish lines, and a pulsing low end for a particularly beefy version of "Disquis". Last, but certainly not least, Jay Tripwire (Tonality, Poker Flat) provides an evocative, sublimely building remix of "Cellar", featuring clanging percussion, liquidy found sounds, filtered chords, and the hypnotic drum-play he's known for.

Bogota Records knows the past, and repeating quality like this in the future is a foregone conclusion. Stay tuned to hear what other gems the label and Ivaylo have in store …

Ivaylo - Themes (Bogota Records)

Bogota Records is pleased to introduce their inaugural release Themes, the deep house work of Ivaylo. A Bulgarian native based in Oslo, Ivaylo has produced two original tracks: “Innerself” featuring Norwegian singer Renate and “Pelican.” Remixes come by way of Johnny Fiasco, a renowned artist from Chicago with a range of production credits to his name, and Cymasonic Recordings label owner Arildo Dildo collaborating with Barcelona native Usmev.

While “Innerself” is only their second time working together, Ivaylo and Renate are old friends. Delicate and slow, the song came about when Ivaylo, knowing Renate’s love for depth, played it for her and she began writing lyrics over coffee. An online back and forth ensued resulting in the final product: a deeply moody, but impactful groove with plenty of melody. Johnny Fiasco’s remix ups the tempo while rinsing the original synths and vocals in his own treatment, complete with hats that quite literally click.

The second original, “Pelican,” is a chuggy house track with nu-disco flavor. The synths are slick and sleazy and the vocal chops are full of attitude. For their remix, Arildo and Usmev take the tempo down and open a revolving door of delay and filter effects.

The Bogota label and Ivaylo have put their best foot forward for this debut release.

Brett Johnson (Bang The Box / Cynosure) - “Deep sexiness … cool!”
Tensnake - “I like both versions of ‘Innerself.’”
Audiojack (Gruuv) - “Lovely stuff!”

Jaymz Nylon (Nylon Trax) - “This is nice and moody.”
Marcia Carr (Mi-Soul Radio / Ladyz) - “Two solid house floor shakers from Ivaylo … the Arido & Usmev of ‘Pelican’ being my choice cut with its soul percussive action. Fiyah!”
Joey Silvero (Distant People) - “There’s a classy feel to the Johnny Fiasco mix. I love all the sweeping synths and swirls bubbling through it.”
Kadabra (The House Hookup Radio Show) - “Fantastic release. ”Innerself“ is my favorite cut but they all have their own flavor.”
