Abstrakt Audio - Apollonia / Nu Funk (Whiskey Pickle)

Austin’s Whiskey Pickle label presents the debut release from Abstrakt Audio, a project created by south Texas native Fern Argüello. Producing since the age of 15, starting with a Roland TR–909 and a banged-up Juno–60 synthesizer, Fern has always been drawn to the sounds of eighties boogie and Italo disco thanks to his father’s hip record collection. Previously, Fern was a part of production duo Retrovox with Rey Aguilar, releasing a number of tracks for PBR Recordings and playing shows and festivals all over Texas and Mexico. With a recent move to Austin, Fern finally goes solo with Abstrakt Audio and fully embraces his Italo-boogie roots with these two funk-fueled tracks. The single leads with “Apollonia” which could easily have been heard pumping out of boom boxes and ghetto blasters on Minneapolis’ back streets during the heyday of the Purple Reign. The flip side, “Nu Funk,” features dubbed out chords and a sternum-rattling bass line. The tune builds on a simple, yet effective progression that is sure to please boogie fans and house heads alike. Two crucial cuts here with serious ‘let’s-get-this-party-started’ potential … Whiskey Pickle once again delivers the quality DJ goods.
