Joeblack - The Groove and The Universe EP (SynthFunk Music)

Joeblack brings the boogie from Brazil, courtesy of the sleek new disco-vibed label SynthFunk Music. Based in the southern city of Porto Alegre, the young producer broke out in 2014 with funky jams under his Mundo Paralelo project and then, adopting the Joeblack moniker, with releases on Casio Social Club's Mullet Records. Joeblack more recently gained attention for his contribution to Dragon Suplex's "First Kiss" and his rework of Robin S's "Show Me Love," earning kudos from the likes of François K and Greg Wilson.

Now Joeblack is back, delivering four party-ready cuts on his latest EP, The Groove and the Universe. These tracks all feature boogie grooves, prominent synth bass, punchy disco drums, and rousing vocal hooks from Joeblack himself. The sounds are steamier than a tropical jungle, bringing hip-shaking epiphanies to the dancefloor while welcoming SynthFunk Music to the scene. Groove is in the heart!

Five Alarm Funk feat. Bootsy Collins - We Play The Funk (CMC & Silenta Remix) [Roca Records]

In 2018, Five Alarm Funk, the Vancouver-based world-trekking funk ensemble, collaborated with the legendary Bootsy Collins for “We Play the Funk.” Five Alarm Funk joined a dizzying list of Boosty-enhanced bands and collaborators, including James Browns’ The JBs, Parliament Funkadelic, Prince, Daft Punk, and so many more. “We Play The Funk” features the electrifying horn section assault of Five Alarm Funk and Bootsy’s undeniable bass guitar riffs and vocal magic. This one deserves all caps: FUNK.

CMC & Silenta, the exceptional funky breakbeat duo from Germany, have gotten their skilled mitts on “We Play the Funk” and remixed it for a new decade. The horns signal the start of this party over go-go style rhythms and percussion. Then the full beat comes in along with Bootsy’s funky declarations — no dancefloor within range can resist the explosive result. Five Alarm Funk, Bootsy Collins, and CMC & Silenta: a match made in funky heaven.

Mister T. (Cold Busted) – “Wow … Funk is here again!”
Rory Hoy (Super Hi-Fi) – “The funk levels are ultra-high here!”
Piiit (So Watt) – “This is wicked!”
Wilbour Craddock (Groovewest) – “It’s Five Alarm Funk baby!”

All Good Funk Alliance - Off-Kilter Funk (Super Hi-Fi Recordings)

All Good Funk Alliance are back on Super Hi-Fi Recordings with Off-Kilter Funk, a groovy EP consisting of three songs riding the pair's patented synth-funk sound. "On-Kilter" starts things off with beats, keys, and effects used in fun and inventive ways to create a clear winner for the dance floor. Next up is "Dream Kilter" featuring an unmistakable AGFA groove over a bit of squelchy '80s-inspired funk. This one's for the boogie lovers. "Down Kilter" lowers the tempo but still moves the floor in an irresistible late night style. Jazzy keys and a punchy low end make this cut move, and it unfolds nicely into a little island of sound.

Kraak & Smaak - "Nice!"
DJ Moneyshot (Solid Steel Radio / Jalapeno Records) - "AGFA messing with my head, in a good way. 'Off-Kilter Funk' is the perfect title for this little offering."
Fort Knox Five - "Another solid release from our fellow DC funksters! Top notch production and spectacular synths dominate these tracks and are sure to get the booties shaking."
Hippie Torrales - "I'm digging this groove."
Jayl Funk (Bombastic Jam / Timewarp) - "Wow … awesome release!"
tOtALcULt (Cult Music / NuFunk) - "AGFA on fire! All three tracks are brilliant in their own right, but I'm particularly loving the retro stylings of 'Dream-Kilter'."
Flash Atkins (Paper Recordings) - "'On-Kilter' is the one for me."
Rory Hoy - "A totally strong release … definitely supporting."
Stereo 77 (Plimsoll Records) - "Killer EP … every track is solid."
Richie Roberts (The Dance Factory Radio Show, BBC) - "Just wonderful ... funk-filled yet dreamy club music."
Distant People (Foliage / Seamless) - "'Down-Kilter' … what a track. The beat has a wicked swing."
Tee Cardaci (Low Down Grooves / Sine Qua Non) - "Killer release from the AGFA boys! Love the concept. Every mix is ace and completely unique. Very much looking forward to dropping these."
DJ Zach (Subtronic End Radio Show) - "Banging, in true All Good Funk Alliance fashion!"

Angel Funke - Disco Nights (Super Fi-Fi Recordings)

Angel Funke descends on the Super Hi-Fi universe from Barcelona, delivering a nifty slice of disco breaks for the label’s tenth release. Angel Funke is a bit of a mystery, but he has previously made contact with deep and jazzy house style releases on the likes of Novo Music and Simposio. His debut with Super Hi-Fi is “Disco Nights,” a cool dance-floor cut complete with growling bass and a fine shuffle break, perfectly bridging the space between nu-disco and funkier, jazzy offerings. Greek DMC champ DJ Kid Stretch next remixes the song in an almost full-on live style with crisp drums, funky organ, rousing percussion, and a complete horn section. Then Brazil’s Trotter takes “Disco Nights” in a more modern direction, cutting up the samples and creating a groove with a 303-style bass line that materializes after the drop. Super Hi-Fi’s own B-Team step up to deliver a dizzying FX-laden future-boogie version spiced with vocoder bits and some tough latin percussion flair to take their version over the edge. Finally, Canadian house-meister Spiltmilk drops “Disco Nights” into a deep Idjut Boys-like dubby groove anchoring dirty guitar and a groovy bassline for potent after-hours power. The remixes in this latest package from Super Hi-Fi are all unique and varied, but still manage to tell the story of “Disco Nights.” DJs rejoice!

Danny Ward (Dubble D / Moodymanc) - “Brilliant party pack!”
Sleazy McQueen - “Fonky.”
Stereo 77 - “The Spiltmilk Remix is heavy! I can’t wait to use it this weekend.”
Severino (Horse Meat Disco) - “Funky … funky … fun!”
Omegaman - “Dope selection here from Super Hi-Fi. I really dig all of the mixes … too hard to choose a favorite from these tasty treats.”
Tal M. Klein - “Wow, the Spiltmilk remix is exactly the sort of vibe that I’m playing right now. It will likely be in my next mix. Well done!”
Kosmas Epsilon (Epsilon Trax) - “Super Hi-Fi rocks my world! Nice one … old-school vibes, nu-school production.”
Thomas Pudell (Black Alley) - “Trotter is hitting the spot here for me … liking his Brazilian funk!”
Clairvo (Tilos Radio) - “Each track is a winner, but for my taste the best would be Kid Strecth’s remix. Been missing this sort of happy funky breaks so much!”
Double-D (Funky Fresh Radio Show) - “B-Boy-Breaks rockin’ … dope!”
