Pedro Faria feat. Kavina Ladean - Same Ground (Viva Recordings)

Viva Recordings is proud to present “Same Ground,” the latest offering from Portuguese artist Pedro Faria (Elektronic Vibes, Souled Records), featuring Kavina Ladean on vocals. The original is a stompy foray into house territory, with a strong, dreamy synth line that underscores Ladean’s vocal work beautifully. Pezzner (Freerange, Smoke N’ Mirrors) follows up with a captivating remix, transforming the original into a cerebral, dark and jazzy deep house cut, taking the listener on a subtle journey through sound. The remix by Futurewife (PYT Records, Brilliantine) picks up the tempo and provides us with a more tech-house interpretation of the track, while still maintaining its deep and soulful essence. Viva label head Neiro (Uniting Souls, Chillin) contributes a nice rework as well, chopping up Ladean’s vocals to maximum effect and sculpting a strong bass line to keep this track moving ahead perfectly. Provoke Rain (Labella Recordings) rounds out the release with a final remix, by the far the most ‘techno’ of all the remixes. Dark and stripped down synth work, coupled with bizarre and otherworldly vocal lines create a track ready for the weirdest hours of the night.

Michael Manahan - Regulate The Deep (Uniting Souls Music)

Uniting Souls, the Seattle-based imprint that started as a leading underground events promoter in 1997, is busting forth in 2012 by already issuing its second stellar release of the year. This single features local Seattle DJ legend Michael Manahan and his debut track “Regulate The Deep.” Manahan has been active in the northwest US scene for over twenty years, co-founding the Oracle Gatherings and co-producing the Decibel Festival, two well-established north American dance music events. It’s amazing that after all this time Manahan had yet to release his own production, but finally the time is ripe and “Regulate The Deep” is the result. The track features singer Ilen Halogram delivering a gorgeous, somewhat dreamy vocal over a low-slung understated deep house groove. This atmospheric cut hypnotically draws the listener inside, whether on an after-hours dancefloor or at a sunrise ‘back to mine’ session.

The remixes come courtesy of a ‘who’s who’ of Seattle house music producers. Leading the charge is the incomparable Pezzner (Freerange, Smoke N’ Mirrors) providing a twisted and twisty deep house interpretation as only Pezzner can give. The build on this one should send the nightclub reeling. Neiro is up next, coming off his recent, acclaimed Park Authority EP for Uniting Souls. Neiro gives the track a subtle, deep Chicago feel using cut-ups of the vocals as rhythmic accents in cahoots with a processed piano line. Finally, Uniting Souls veteran Jordan Strong adds a pulsing synth pad and a snappy snare to his dubbed-out remix, creating a persistent, bouncy treatment to excite late night dance floors. It’s an undeniably cool package coming at you from Uniting Souls, and just the beginning of what’s in store for the label in 2012.

Justin Martin - “Love the Pezzner mix!”
DJ Schwa (Shades Of Gray) - “Nice remix by Pezzner!”

Demarkus Lewis - “Pezzner mix for me here .. proper deepness with chunk.”

Beppe Gioia (Garage Family) - “Definitely for my deep radio sets!”

Neiro - Park Authority EP (Uniting Souls Music)

Starting in 1997 as an influential outfit organizing top notch west coast house music events, Seattle’s Uniting Souls has confidently ventured into the music-making realm with the label sharing their name. Having already issued a series of excellent releases featuring the likes of Johnny Fiasco, Brett Johnson, LawnChair Generals, and Pezzner, Uniting Souls bounce forward into 2012 with a lush four track EP from Neiro. Neiro is Chad Neiro, a Florida native now making waves in Seattle having previously contributed cool house tracks to the Chillin Music, Mindshift, and Connected Music labels. Neiro’s taken a break from his A&R duties at Viva! Recordings to drop the Park Authority EP for Uniting Souls. The EP is further exploration into Neiro’s blending of deep house and tech-house vibes, finding a drifty and hypnotic nightclub space in-between. Included are the subdued, dubby skank of “Roots,” the organ-driven “Rising Sun,” the bouncing bass of “Getting Around,” and the especially dreamy “Run In The Park.” These are four tracks designed to add introspective dancefloor moments to the sets of deeper house DJs. Enjoy.
