Danced Til Midnight - She Can't Love You (Remixes) [Thylacine Sounds]

Acclaimed London-based outfit Danced Til Midnight revisits their recent single “She Can’t Love You” with a potent deep house remix by Kenny Summit and a stunning new version from the band. Led by producer and DJ Andy Anderson, Danced Til Midnight embark on a musical mission to create something truly unique: electronic sun-drenched grooves with clear undertones of eras gone past. “She Can’t Love You” delivers on the promise with smooth, soulful vocals from Iljeoma and timeless, top notch production and instrumentation.

This latest single on Thylacine Sounds opens with a deep and funky remix of “She Can’t Love You” from Los Angeles's Kenny Summit (Good For You Records). Kenny transforms the original with hypnotic sub-bass, phased staccato chords, and an insistent, crisp rhythm track. Iljeoma's vocals are given a far-away spaciness, beckoning listeners to the dance floor with a beguiling tone. The b-side presents Danced Til Midnight's own Acoustic Version, featuring the legendary Danny Thompson on bass guitar. The tune takes on a classic vibe, suitable for soundtracking a tense movie scene between two lovers who also happen to be secret agents for opposing sides. These two very different mixes show the strength of the original song, with its beautiful, haunting melody and evocative lyrics. Danced Til Midnight satisfies once again.

Exclusive: Danced Til Midnight In The Mix

Formed in London by producer and DJ Andy Anderson, Danced Til Midnight joyfully transmit electronic sun-drenched grooves with clear undertones of eras gone past; an uplifting blend of old and new school funk and disco that's been getting loads of attention. The combo's latest single – "She Can't Love You" – is due out soon on the Thylacine Sounds and features a crucial remix by none other than Egyptian Lover.

To warm us up for the new release, Andy delivered a fantastic DJ mix that runs the gamut of sounds that inspire the Danced Til Midnight project, and includes a sneak peek at "She Can't Love You" and its remix. Here's what Andy told us about this mix:

his mix features selections that have become staples in my record bag over the 12 months, as well as a couple of new test pressings from the Danced Til Midnight camp. It is a mostly four-to-the-floor collection, but it does contain enough of the funk I'm known for (a regular DJ'ing tag team partner of mine heard a radio show I did recently and didn't think it could possibly be me as it was mostly house! My turntabling partner knew me as a funkateer, I guess I moonlight in different genres!). The flow of this mix I feel is rooted in my formative experiences of DJ'ing in bars and clubs for an entire evening. DJ'ing throughout the course of a whole night necessitates a number of dynamic shifts as an evening progresses and this philosophy is now hard-wired into my DJ sets. I always feel the need to build the dynamics of the music progressively rather than do a quick cut into another style, so that the flow of music becomes a journey – musically, emotively, and in terms of energy. There is quite a lot of disco in this mix and I find it takes up a sizable part of my record box when DJ'ing at the moment. I find it to be a good bridge between playing funk and house and when playing shorter sets disco is such immediate music; whether people recognize samples in the original records from modern house tracks or simply find it good for getting a party started.

Danced Til Midnight - More Of Love / No Way Back (Thylacine Sounds)

Fresh out of the UK, London's Danced Til Midnight made their debut last year on the Thylacine Sounds imprint. The Sun Bleach EP 12" netted support from purveyors of disco like Tensnake, Miguel Campbell, and Severino, and received a solid 5-out-of-5 from noted dance music authority The Ransom Note. Now this funky project is back on the scene with a follow-up, "More of Love", backed with the equally wonderful "No Way Back".

Producer and DJ Andy Anderson, who cut his teeth around Southend's growing alternative music scene, met Wigan-born vocalist and The Dunes' front woman Carmelle on East London's soul club circuit. Inspired by a mutual love of all things funky, the duo embarked on a musical partnership to create something truly unique; electronic sun-drenched grooves with clear undertones of eras gone past. Collaborating with a range of artists including brass collective The Killer Horns (from Bonobo's touring band) and Boiler Room regular Tall Black Guy, their uplifting yet emotional blend of old and new school funk and disco continues to attract all the right attention.

"More of Love" is a sensually charged slice of 'nu soul' that aims to get the floor bumping and grinding, no matter the hour. Its slinky live rhythm track – featuring a filtered bass line to make Bootsy proud – quickly sets the tone, and the cool guitar riffs, synth melodies, and Carmelle's exquisite vocal performance combine into a potential modern funk classic. "No Way Back" offers an addictive sax hook from The Killer Horns and a driving bass groove accompanied by Hendrix-style floating guitar from Andy Anderson and jazz aficionado Daniel Parker. Again, Carmelle is on point with a vocal harking back to the best moments of British soul.

The first remix comes from the notorious disco doyens Faze Action who turn "More of Love" into a supercharged dance floor bomb. These groovy brothers showcase their renowned production acumen with a sonically abundant treatment that doesn't sacrifice the winning elements of the original one bit. Meanwhile, Glasgow's heady beat champion The Revenge takes "No Way Out" and creates a pulsating builder that owns the deeper shades of Balearic beach house. The vocals float elegantly above the remix's mesmerizing rhythm construction and when those horns come in … bam!

This is one release that transports you effortlessly to the poolside, the musical embodiment of the longest, hottest, and most mischievous summer.

Quentin Harris - "The Revenge mix for me."
Ursula 1000 - "Hot."
Fort Knox Five - "Digging the late night classic soul-funk of the original but the Faze Action remix is also a super funky disco tune!"
Rainer Trueby - "The Revenge remix is damn cool."
Johnwaynes (Cécille Records / Compost) - "Excellent. It's good to know soul, funk, and disco type stuff is still healthy with these proper releases."
Nick Holder - "I'm digging all these mixes."
Tensnake - "That Revenge remix is nice."
Sleazy McQueen - "Perfect remix compliments!"
Larry Tee - "Tasty!"
Hard Ton (Toy Tonics / Luv Shack) - "I soooo love this. The remixes are dope, and the originals are very cool, too."
Abicah Soul - "Nice!"
Severino (Horse Meat Disco) - "Yes … this is great!"
Al Mackenzie (Great Outdoors / Brassneck) - "Ace. Both remixes are excellent."
Rayko (Rare Wiri / Eskimo) - "Nice release. I've loving the Faze Action remix."
Alkalino - "I really like the vibe of The Revenge's mix."
