W. Jeremy - Input/Output EP (Get Up Recordings)

Get Up Recordings co-owner W. Jeremy releases his second original EP for the label, titled the Input/Output EP. The EP consists of three original tracks highlighting a variety of house genres representative of his production style. The talented NYC producer M A N I K lends his magical touch on a remix of “Future”.

W. Jeremy is a NYC based DJ / Producer whose history of working for DJs and record labels in the '90s -- ranging from Angel Moraes to Tony Humphries -- has greatly influenced his DJ sets and production / remix style. His Get Up Recordings label is also clearly influenced by his musical past, with a colorful spectrum of artists and remixers including Kim Ann Foxman, Tedd Patterson, MATRiXXMAN, Alinka, Gavin Russom, and David Harness.

The EP kicks off with the big room deep banger “Future”. The swells and full soundscape are kept moving by the heavy kick and deep bass line, while the organ melody floats above it all. The vocal sample on repeat brings the song to a peak and then it all drops back into a pulsating rhythm. M A N I K’s take on “Future” is something that is in the same deep vein, but much more minimal and tech. It grooves forward but then drops for a ponderous peak of glowing tones that echo with the vocal sample swirling around it. M A N I K’s eclectic production style has landed him releases on Ovum, Hot Creations, and Poker Flat, and he has appeared on DJ Mag’s list as one of the 'Hot To Watch' artists.

The next two original tracks, “Neu Daze” and “Viva”, really showcase W. Jeremy’s wide brushstroke palette. “Neu Daze” jumps out of the gate as an uplifting jazzy, swingy bass track, complete with organ bursts and deep melodic sub basses. Whereas the slower paced “Viva” -- with its lush keys, soaring lead, and huge rolling drums -- makes it a pleasant serene musical journey for the listener, as well as a nice way to round out the Input/Output EP.

Get Up Recordings co-owner W. Jeremy releases his second original EP for the label, titled the Input/Output EP. The EP consists of three original tracks highlighting a variety of house music genres, representative of his acclaimed production style. Included are the deep big room banger "Future", “Neu Daze” and its jazzy swing touch, and the hypnotic, mid-tempo treat of "Viva". The talented NYC producer M A N I K (Ovum, Hot Creations) lends his magical touch on a techier, but still deep, remix of “Future”. Be sure to give this one a spin.

Hardkiss - It's Right (Remixes) (Hardkiss Music)

San Francisco electronic music mainstays Hardkiss have released double remix EPs of “It's Right", the fourth single off their sentimental spring album release 1991. The album was hailed as "one of the most important EDM records of the last ten years" by Magnetic Magazine while Datatransmission.co.uk called it "a modern dance classic." For the occasion, Hardkiss have reached into their own backyard to pull from Bay Area family on one side and, on the other, contributors from around the globe further extending their tribe - dual offerings aimed at delivering a diverse collection of remixes.

The San Francisco Family Remixes features different versions from David Harness, Freakpusher, Robbie Hardkiss, and Gavin Hardkiss while the Global Family Remixes includes a host of international artists from Africa, Europe, and the USA including Stephane Deschezeaux, rAin, N'Dinga Gaba, Constar, and, once again, Gavin Hardkiss.

For early digestion, a six track sampler merges the two EPs, showcasing a few highlights by the Hardkiss brothers, Harness, rAin, N'Dinga Gaba, and Constar. The holistic effort from this cast of characters is hard to pin down on a release that is at times dramatic, playfully pop-sensible, and tapping into something cosmic … but mostly downright funky and unpredictable. Nothing less is to be expected when bringing together the contrasting mix of San Francisco dance music legends, rising producers with their own take on the South African sounds, and a lone New Yorker from the Brooklyn borough. It must be said that this record means a lot to the Hardkiss brothers, with Robbie having re-sung the original vocals for his retouch and Gavin reportedly remixing the song 'at least 100 times' to get to his latest incarnation of it. In their hands, the final outcome is understandably bound with love and care.

Graeme Park - “David Harness's Vox Remix is funked up goodness! The Barefoot Mix is cool too.”
Nick Warren (Hope Recordings / Way Out West) - “Every mix is great … hard to pick a favorite, but the N'Dinga mix is pretty special.”
Tensnake - “I like the deeper remixes.”
Behrouz (Global Underground / Forensic) - "I'm liking the N"dinga Gaba remix and also the Gavin Hardkiss Barefoot Remix. Full support."
Sleazy McQueen (Whiskey Disco / Paper Recordings) - “Lovin’ all of them!”
Marques Wyatt - “Tight beats.”
Elijah Collins (Mullet Records / Retrospective) - “The Robbie Hardkiss Re-Do is pretty sick!”
Severino (Horse Meat Disco) - “The Harness Vox Remix is good stuff … Robbie Hardkiss's Re-Do is great too.”
Craig Stewart (Montana & Stewart / DCSTrax) - “My brother N'Dinga Gaba nails this … stunning deepness.”
Sumsuch (Colour and Pitch / Mega Jawns) - “Impossible to choose a favorite here - what an inspired selection of reworkings. Loving this!”
Short Bus Kids (Bounce House Recordings) - “Gavin Hardkiss’s Barefoot Remix is an absolute killer track.”
Distant People (SSRadio / Foliage) - “Great selection of mixes … Gavin Hardkiss's Barefoot Remix is doing it for me … pure funk.”
Al Bradley (3am Recordings / Fabric) - “Particularly feeling the Harness Vox Remix for the sultry house vibes and the Gavin Hardkiss's Barefoot Remix for funk-laden bumpy beats wickedness!”
Manuel Sahagun (Candy Music / Drop Music) - “Yes, great pack! The Constar remix is my pick.”
Minus 8 (Compost / Stereo Deluxe) - “The N’Dinga Gaba remix of ‘It’s Right’ is great.”
Oded Nir (Suntree Records / Screen.FM) - “Lovely deep and disco vibes here … The rAin Re-Edit is true beauty.”
Adam Warped (Whiskey Pickle) - “Feelin' them all for sure, but the Hardkiss brothers’ remixes are hitting the spot right now.”
Clive Craske (RadioReverb, UK) - "Hard beats yet soft vibes are always in order from the US west coast's most renown producers. N'Dinga Gaba gives us the most chilled re-rub, and Constar the heaviest. A solid package."

Phil Nobel - All's Cool (Patsada Records)

Patsada Records finds itself at release number fifteen with the "All's Cool" / "U 2" single, a reminder of how they've approached the journey thus far. Managed by Miss Mee and Phil Nobel, Patsada delivers once again on its promise of soulful, funky house inspired by the revered NYC, Chicago, and San Francisco house scenes.

In a move that's symbolic for the label, the release sees its co-founder Phil Nobel finally coming forward from behind the scenes. Previously pulling strings in the shadows, he lets the lights flood over his house format tinkering, which proves to be crafty and masterful right from the top. Coming at the two tracks double-blind, the release suggests the funky Parisian influence of early supporter Phil Weeks, the Robsoul Recordings boss and previous collaborator with the Patsada label. Whether it be the shuffling tech groove and classy piano flutters of "All's Cool", or the glitchy, robotic nu-nu-disco of "U 2", this body of work sounds instantly fresh and familiar -- the characteristics of classic timelessness.

Roy Davis Jr. - “I dig it! Full Support!”
Robert Owens - “Cool tracks.”
Tensnake - “‘U 2’ is nice stuff.”
DJ Mes (Guesthouse) - “Solid … loving ‘U 2!’”
Diz (Iz & Diz / Vizual Recordings) - “‘All's Cool’ is the jam for me … very heady and sexy!”
Ben Mono (Undertones Gang / Plant Music) - “Digging this one and will definitely play.”
Matt Prehn (Oh So Coy / Large Music) - “‘U 2’ has a groove … should sound wicked on a rig.”
Pete Williams (Natural Rhythm) - “‘All’s Cool’ is top … funky and swings in all the right ways! Both cuts are on point.”
Al Bradley (3am Recordings / Fabric) - “Both are cool here, but particularly digging the deeper flow of ‘U 2.’”
Distant People (SSRadio / Foliage) - “Mental track, ‘U 2’ … seriously slammin'!”
Tyler Stadius (Deepsite / Dialtone Records) - “Dig the quirky, funky sound!’
Strakes (Kahua Music / Lost My Dog Records) - “Both solid tracks here.”
Louis Hughes (6th Sense Music / Chicago House FM) - “I’m always happy to see a Patsada release in my inbox. Nice techy vibes on this one … perfect for the peak time sets.”
Jamie Topham (CDPool) - “I’m liking this two tracker from Phil Nobel and Patsada. ‘All's Cool’ is my favorite, but ‘U 2’ is the more obvious club friendly vibe here.”
DJ Nova (Rodon FM 95, Greece) - “I’m living for the disco boogie breakdown on ‘U 2’ … if I was DJ'ing in a club tonight, I would mix it and drop it two times per hour!”
Marcia Carr (Mi-Soul Radio / Ladyz) - “Delightful with a lot of bounce, ‘All’s Cool’ works for me.”
Clive Craske (RadioReverb, UK) - "Glorious grooves created from finely crafted beats, with subtle sub-layering of percussion and simple bass lines … it's what gives this EP its cool vibe. Tasty."
Bogdan Taran (www.DanceRadio.lv, Latvia) - “Cool sounds … underground and sophisticated.”

Playless - How Much? (Whiskey Pickle)

Whiskey Pickle, the little central Texas imprint, has outdone themselves with a staggeringly ambitious output this year. Their massive schedule included next level releases from Gavin and Robbie Hardkiss, Walter Jones, and newcomers such as Xander Milne, Thomas, and Glass Slipper alongside remix contributions from heavy hitters like James Curd, Sleazy McQueen, Dead Rose Music Company, and Jake Childs.

As 2014 comes to a close, Whiskey Pickle wraps up its biggest year to date with a blinding release from Barcelona based producer Playless. The Spanish native -- born Alex Ferrer -- is no novice to the global scene and has an impressive resume under his previous alias Sidechains. Through releases on Ministry of Sound, Hed Kandi, Toolroom, Moda, and Sweat It Out, plus a residency at Barcelona’s most beloved venue, Razzmatazz, the young maestro has earned his stripes in an authentic and organic way: with hard work, perseverance, and talent.

Ferrer’s second artist release as Playless comes in the form of "How Much?" and "Juno". Both tracks brilliantly showcase his production style which blends forward thinking, modern techniques with the fun, carefree spirit of dance music’s humble beginnings. "How Much?" kicks things off with shuffling hats, shimmering piano riffs, MIDI saxophones, and bass drops … the good time vibes are palpable on this one. The B-side, "Juno", pays homage to the sweaty warehouse days of yore with a barrage of 909 percussion, cavernous reverb, and a bass line as 'sliky' as Steve Hurley.

Londoner-turned-Parisian and Vulture Music label admin Xander Milne makes his second appearance on Whiskey Pickle remixing "How Much?". He twists the wistful leanings of the original into a pumping, party-jam anthem. Crackling percussion and layers of hype-man vocals bring the energy to a boiling point at the massive, filtered piano breakdown. "Juno" gets a deep and heavy re-rub from Whiskey Pickle stalwart Abstrakt Audio on his 'Warehouse' Remix which transports the listener to a darkened dance floor somewhere on the south side of Chicago.

Beppe Gioia (Garage Family / Citydeep) - "Hot one!"
Quentin Harris (Strictly Rhythm / D:Vision) - “Like what I’ve heard so far.”
Marques Wyatt (Vanguard / Deep L.A.) - “Tight.”
Jason Hodges (Sampled Recordings) - "A dope floor jammer!"
CJ Mackintosh - "Loving 'Juno'!"
Ursula 1000 - "Hot."
Robbie Hardkiss - "The '90s are alive!"
Distant People (SSRadio / Foliage) - “‘How Much?’ is a stand out track, I like the retro feel and classic house groove.”
Craig Stewart (Montana & Stewart / DCSTrax) - “Original ‘Juno’ is very tasty.”
Chris Massey (Paper Recordings / Electriks) - “Hands in the lasers … white gloves, whistles, white doves…”
Ken Liu (Headset Recordings) - “Love it! All four are beasts! It’s hard to pick a favorite, but going to go with the Abstrakt Audio remix.”
Anna Wall (Future Disco / Tough Luck Records) - “‘90s fabulous flavors! ‘Juno’ is going to light up the dance floors.”
Still Rob G (Smoke n Mirrors / Om Records) - “Digging the Abstrakt Audio remix! ‘How Much?’ also has a nice classic house vibe.”
Keine Moniker (Electric Avenue) - “Big bassline on ‘Juno’ … love the original. ’How Much?’ definitely brings it back in time with that old disco diva house sound.”
Al Bradley (3am Recordings / Fabric) - “Digging the ‘Juno’ original here … really solid raw house beats.”
Duserock (Sleeper Cell / EMDM) - “I can not wait to drop the Xander Milne remix … love it!”
So Called Scumbags (Grin Recordings / Subliminal) - “On this!”
Bruce Tantum (Lowlife) - “Loving this, of course! Real-deal old-school vibes, but still perfect for the kind of dance floors that I most often find myself on.”
Jamie Topham (CDPool) - “The original of ‘How Much?’ could be straight out of the ‘90s Italo house scene … good stuff all round.”
Phonatics (Housesession Records / Yes Yes Records) - “Absolutely love this release.”
Michael Fossati (Spirit Of House Web Zine) - “Wicked wicked remix by Abstrakt Audio … it’s a prime-time late night weapon.”
Sam Hopkins (AccuRadio, Chicago) - “I love the original mix of ‘Juno’ - just pure fun - and ‘How Much?’ is another beast of a track.”
