Gustavo Fk & Tropicall - I Have The Bass (Tree Sixty One)

With a focus on traditional house music and an uplifting attitude, Tree Sixty One is an exciting imprint founded by Gustavo Fk, a Brazilian producer relocated in Barcelona. In just its first year, Tree Sixty One's refreshing sound captured attention and plays from the likes of Kerri Chandler, Danny Krivit, and Miguel Migs, and Gustavo Fk's album New Perspective was nominated for Best Electronic Music Album in the Brazilian Music Awards. Now Gustavo Fk has collaborated with Brazil DJ duo Tropicall for the deliriously floor-primed single "I Have The Bass", the latest release on Tree Sixty One. The original has all the elements of a high-charged nightclub staple: a definite old school flavor, rousing vocal hooks, prominent garage-tinged bass lines, a solid rhythm track, and even some live 'scratches' to get the crowd motivated. Each of the collaborators then supply their own remixes; Gustavo Fk strips things back for a more underground, late night feel while Tropicall amp the energy a bit, giving the cut a classic influence and a bit of that Brazilian house touch. Proper peak time house music vibes in full effect!

Whitney Fierce - Broken Car Window Remixed (RIS Labs)

Rock It Science Laboratories is pleased to introduce the debut release from Los Angeles rabble-rouser Whitney Fierce, backed by a quintet of fresh remixes. Though this may be her first solo release, Whitney is already quite seasoned within the dance music world. As a vocalist, she was a touring member of Hercules and Love Affair (singing on their DJ Kicks single "Release Me") and provided guest vocals for Subb-an’s Vapour Trails EP on Crosstown Rebels. Whitney's DJ exploits are also extensive, with gigs across the country and internationally (such as playing for Dior in Paris) … but, most notably, Whitney Fierce has recently held the distinction of being New Order's tour DJ.

The Broken Car Window EP defines Whitney's self-described 'dream house' sound within its two tracks; they are subtle, sexy, and deep. "The Night Air" combines moody chimes, strings, and bass lines with intricate percussion while her vocals recall a warm night cruising in her Corvette. "Breath" is a darker, headier affair … it features evocative moonlit textures, ominous whispers, and echoed snatches of Whitney's vocals in a strangely cinematic blend.

Both tracks are remixed distinctively by some of the top players in the RIS Labs family. "The Night Air" comes first, with Munich-based luminary Justin Faust (Discotexas / Nurvous) pulling it into a summertime house groove. It's got loads of bounce and big, fuzzy chords. RIS Labs ringleader Eric Sharp then effectively twists the track into a brighter, more upbeat bass house direction. Give In (RIS Labs / Dirtybird) goes for a funky, mid-tempo groove that merges tech-house and nu-disco elements in a floor-filling fashion. Human Movement (Exposure Music) finally transforms "The Night Air" into a driving dark banger with immaculate production that hits like a ton of bricks. "Breath" is not left out of the remix queue … Brooklyn native Curses (Throne of Blood / Safer At Night) gives it a brilliant revision, taking it into blissful deep techno territory. Top notch quality all around.

Eddie Amador - "I really dig Justin Faust's remix here."
Nick Warren - "Excellent release!"
Andy Cato (Groove Armada) - "I quite like this one."
Sunshine Jones (Dubtribe) - "The Give In remix is my favorite, but the originals are really lovely and haunting."
Human Life (Exploited / Win Music) - "The Curses remix is killer."
Severino (Horse Meat Disco) - "Yes … cool vibe."
Jason Hodges - "That Eric Sharp mix is sharp."
Sumsuch (Colour and Pitch / Mega Jawns) - "Both of Whitney Fierce's originals are big for me."
Feygin (Sincopat / Composite) - "There are some great remixes on this."
Damian D'Costa (Casa D'Costa) - "The Human Movement remix is nice!"
Al Bradley (3am Recordings) - "Some really cool vibes across this release. Justin Faust and Give In drop great remixes, but the standout for me is the original of 'The Night Air' … I'm really feeling the atmospheric groove right there."
DJ Morpheus (Lysergic Factory) - "A fantastic package all in all, not a weak track or remix in sight. The curses remix in particular is magic."
Kosta (Vibe FM / Dance FM) - "This is absolutely perfect melange of tunes for the summer we're having."

The Funk District - Robot Soul (Whiskey Pickle)

Just in time for pool party season comes the latest endeavor from Cancun-based producer The Funk District. Riding a cool, summery breeze straight out of the Yucatan is “Robot Soul”, a super-groovy affair that features remixes from Richard Seaborne (Midnight Riot!) and Hotbox plus a B-side offering in the form of “Right To Humanity”. With previous releases by The Funk District on trusted imprints like Editorial Records, Paper Disco, and Deep Sense, Whiskey Pickle are proud to welcome this budding talent to the fold.

Kicking things off, The Funk District gets things nice and warm with his original take on “Robot Soul”, relying on smooth organ pads, delayed guitar riffs, and a silky bass line. Richard Seaborne’s remix amps up the tempo and adds some funky flute riffs and a mean Moog bass while Hotbox’s dub remix is stripped down and hypnotic. Closing up the shop is the equally funky “Right To Humanity”, a perfect pairing to the lead cut with its fluid guitar riffs, vocoder vox, and cheeky vinyl cracklings.

Graeme Park - "The main mix and dub of 'Robot Soul' are deliciously wonderful. 'Right To Humanity' rocks, too. Big up the Whiskey Pickle posse … another winner!"

Bes & Meret - Cruising (Karmaloft Music)

Karmaloft Music has enlisted Munich-based production duo Bes & Meret for a bright, summer-ready house single, appropriately titled "Cruising". Bes & Meret joined forces in 2010, and have been making a name for themselves with high class house and lounge productions. Their tracks have appeared on compilation series like Café Del Mar, Buddha Bar, and We Love Ibiza and their DJ sets have moved crowds in venues such as Pacha Munich, Milchbar, and Carpe Diem Beach. Bes & Meret's last Karmaloft single, "My Cocoon", was charted by many dance radio jocks and remains a club staple.

For "Cruising", Bes & Meret capture the warm feeling of driving down a beachside avenue, top down and stereo turned up. With elements of nu-disco and Italo-dance sprinkled over the duo's house finesse, the cut transmits a joyful, light-hearted vibe for the dance floor. A groovy, bending bass line plays with the rhythm while crisp, truncated chords and -- for the song's hook -- a haunting, echoed lead melody grab the listener's attention. It's a solid, feel-good production, suitable for sunrise beach parties and deep, late night club moments alike.
