Camilla Luna - Open Up 12" EP (Cymawax)

Cymawax explores the far reaches of our sonic galaxy with its next 12" only release, an exciting seven song set from evocative Uruguayan-Norwegian vocalist Camilla Luna. Camilla is known as one half of Luna & Bazis on WahWah45s, with producer friend BHLB, and as vocalist for Trulz & Robin's releases on Eskimo and Dance Disorder's "Metallic Italic" (Bpitch Control). Her years of improvising vocals with musicians and DJs at renowned Oslo clubs like Blaa, Jeager, and The Villa have given Camilla a knack for accompanying electronic rhythms with haunting, tuneful melodies.

For the Open Up EP, Camilla joins producer BHLB for soulful and raw vocals recorded in one take over futuristic, bass-heavy, and delightfully offbeat tracks. The styles and tempos vary wildly, but the sound throughout is unified in a deceptively organic 'Ex Machina' woman-meets-machine vibe. In the title cut, the almost tribal percussion summons exotic, benevolent spirits when combined with Camilla's temptatious crooning. The twisted R&B of "Wut R U Gwonna DO" could almost be a secret collaboration with the likes of Flying Lotus. And "F.O.C." transmits a slightly intimidating techno stomp that would make all heads on the dance floor turn towards the DJ and immediately take notice. These are just a few of the otherworldly audio nuggets found within the Open Up EP … there are more treasures to unveil. Excavate soulfully.

Kartech - Larrisa (Wind Horse Records)

Wind Horse Records is pleased to unveil "Larrisa", its second release from the New Delhi-based artist Kartech. Born as Thakur Kartik, Kartech is an innovative mix engineer and producer who is known in the Indian house music scene for walking his own path and playing by his own rules. His musical background, technical knowledge, and talent as a DJ have done their part in influencing the Wind Horse sound over the years. On "Larrisa", Kartech is joined by a quartet of acclaimed remixers: India-based producers Llewellyn Hilt and Aaryan as well as Alvaro Hylander and City Soul Project from Europe.

"Larrisa", which made its first appearance on the Wind Horse Five Year Anniversary Sampler, is a groovy deep house track characterized by crisp rhythms, reverb-soaked synth hits, and a rumbling bass line riding alongside calming, melodic chords. These are split apart to a moving effect in a particularly gorgeous mid-track breakdown. The single's b-side, "Never Know How", takes things darker and into the psychedelic zone, presenting a bit of twisted percussion and an exciting interplay between a massive bass synth and Kartech's signature chord-play. This cut really comes alive.

The esteemed team of remixers tackle "Larrisa" with diverse and DJ-ready interpretations. Prolific Denmark-via-Spain producer Alvaro Hylander (DeepWit Recordings) presents a hypnotic version that pulses and booms as it draws one in, while UK duo City Soul Project (City Soul Recordings) turn up the swing and add some soulful vocal hits for a cool rework that only loosely references the original. Representing the Indian side of the Wind Horse family, Llewellyn Hilt delivers a sparser but much spacier remix of "Larrisa" that is introduced with a piercing kick drum, while Aaryan's version boasts bin-shaking sub-bass and intricate layers of percussion, memorably completing this club-primed package.

Kartech's "Larrisa" continues Wind Horse Records' forward momentum, having just eclipsed five years of high quality releases. With fine Indian talent as well as global inspirations on board, "Larrisa" sets the tone for the label's exceptional place in the deep house ecosystem.

DJ Nova (Rodon FM, Greece) - "The deep, mellow, and ethereal sound of Alvaro Hylander remix is really solid."

Ursula 1000 - Faded Denim Wash (Insect Queen Music)

Take a plunge into "Faded Denim Wash", a slow motion cosmic nu-disco number drenched in summer sunshine. This is the first single off the new Ursula 1000 album Voyeur. Melbourne's Abelard, having caused a huge viral stir with his glo-fi tweak of the Seinfeld theme, sprays his vaporwave mist on this remix with a healthy dose of Hammer / Faltermeyer sophisti-pop freshness. Golf Channel's Payfone strip it down to a sexy, jazzy minimal groove while Robot 84 locks his take in a sleazy Italo-disco chugger fashion. British duo Seahawks, creators of their unique "deck-shoegaze" sound (a dubbed out cosmic yacht rock excursion that's had them remix the likes of The Horrors and Time Burgess from The Charlatans) take "Faded Denim Wash" to an ambient trip swimming in fantasy and the lure of mermaids. Ursula wraps it all up like the closing credits of a John Hughes movie with his '80s funk High Waisted Redux.

Chris Coco (Melodica) - "Groovy!"
Sunshine Jones (Dubtribe) - "I adore this … more, please!"

Jon Manley (hOUSEwORX) - "Superb, discofied, synth-infused, and raw in places … punchy goodness!"

Ed Nine / Bai-ee - Heavy House 12" (audioJazz Music)

The audioJazz Music imprint presents the Heavy House EP, a split 12" featuring warm and solid club tracks from Ed Nine and Bai-ee. Both artists are knee-deep in the sound of Chicago … Ed Nine was raised in the south side and started rocking Chicago parties almost a decade ago at the age of 19. Bai-ee, now based in Oakland, also hails from the Windy City, having contributed to local labels like Farris Wheel, Smooth Agent, and Liberate. On the Heavy House EP they each contribute two tracks, creating a balanced offering of heavy hitting drums, rhythmic pads, and gently placed vocals and acid flourishes.
