Nash La Musica - Something Soul (Issa'min)

The Issamin label travels to Johannesburg, South Africa for a rousing new EP from Nash La Musica. That’s the AKA of Tinashe Jomairwa, a musician, DJ, and producer on the rise with multiple single and album projects completed. His recent production of “Drum Of War,” featuring Aphendulwa, was named a Premiere pick-of-the-week by DJ Magazine.

The EP’s name — Something Soul — says it all on the tin. This is soulful dance music, masterfully combing the best of deep house and a South African rhythmic and melodic influence. Nash La Musica is aided by the Xhpsa singer Matisse Janda, whose lovely and gentle voice adds a soothing air to these intricate productions. Highlights include the bright and yearning “Away,” the sleek late-night deep house of “Lapha Kuwe,” and the lush vibe and subtle breakbeats of “Qaphela.” These eight cuts will ignite any set, bringing something soulful (and special) to the dancefloor.

Fallen Fronds - Recycled & Remixed EP (House of Fronds)

Fallen Fronds is back AGAIN in 2021! After keeping a somewhat low profile since their first two EPs — Thermal Breakdown (2012) and Pleather Grip (2013) — Fallen Fronds dropped the four-track Recycled Air EP two months ago, returning with more ambient and techno leanings when compared with the industrial dance feel its predecessors. Always seeking collaborative pursuits and ways to get his music on the widest range of dance floors and outlets as possible, FF’s Charles Guilterre reached out to a select group of remixers for their take on three tracks from Recycled Air, resulting in the Recycled & Remixed EP.

Track 01 is a remix by Adam Collins, an American artist, music producer and DJ, co-founder the band Omni A.M. and record label Euphoria Records. Collins and Guilterre inhabited the same creative circles in both NYC and LA for a time, and Collins provided a stellar remix of House of Fronds' "Let's Hit The Town" single in 2014. “Kenton Blues (Adam Collins Kisses From Honey Remix)” truly exemplifies the his deep, absorbing, live jam feel, highlighting the intricate percussion of the source track; this track would work great on indoor or outdoor dance floors where minimal and deep house are the main music attraction.

Track 02 is remix by Kudeki, a DJ, promoter, and producer widely known for her work as the resident DJ of San Francisco's Noctuary. Kudeki was Introduced by a friend when the idea of a dark techno/electro yet uplifting remix came to mind, and Guilterre really liked Kudeki's debut EP Familiar -> Unfamiliar. “The Spine (feat. something human) (Kudeki Noodle Girl Remix)” hits all the dark, edgy, yet bubbly notes of those juicy tracks you hear in sweaty underground clubs with the techno/house slant.

Track 03 is the Simy Sosa Cinematic Dreams Remix of “Gatekeeper.” Simy Sosa is the production team of Simy Garay and Jose Sosa, both well-known DJs in the Portland (PDX) music scene, often at the same events as Guilterre during his short stay in Portland. While steering a bit closer to the original track, this remix adds house beats, vocal samples, and breaks while emphasizing the techno elements in unexpected ominous and fun tones for a truly cinematic experience. This track is best suited to those house-leaning yet eclectic and dubstep-inspired dancefloors.

Track 04 is a second remix of “Kenton Blues,” titled the Adam Collins Open Arms Remix. Still incorporating the signature Adam Collins live jam feel and particular detail to percussive elements, this remix is all about the breaks, including a funky analog baseline and throwing in a few house vocals for good measure. This track is truly versatile, suitable for a range of dance floors and can be played early, peak, or near the end of the night. This remix also includes the soothing keys from the original for the added emotional depth as needed.

Nick Warren (The Soundgarden) – “The Simy Sosa and Adam Collins mixes are hot.”
Tyler Stadius (Deepsite) – “So good! Can’t wait to try it out.”
Lee Jones (Country Gents) – “Crikey this is amazing. The production on all of them is outstanding.”
Redstickman (The Ambient Mafia) – “Whoa! Gatekeeper is sublime and sexy. Also love Spine – great chugger. Will play these out soon.”
Salah Sadeq (The Crate Radio Show) – “Nice release, I’ll be playing these.”
Dr. Best (Radio Z 95.8, Nuremberg) – “Simy Sosa’s rework is my favorite on here.”
Kosta (The Kisses From Honey remix is fire!”
Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle Radio Show) – “Love the diversity of sound of offer here. The Cinematic Dreams Remix is something very special.”

Alicia - Meraki'a - The Remixes (Uniting Souls Music)

Meraki’a,” from NY-via-Italy producer Alicia, made its first appearance on Uniting Souls Music’s Summer Solstice 2021 Compilation. The track grabbed the attention of DJs and dance floors, warranting its own single featuring a pair of top notch remixes. The deep and techy original leads off the single, with its hypnotic drive, bubbling bass line, and dramatic swells. It’s tailor-made for the after hours. The first remix of “Meraki’a” is by Copenhagen’s Alvaro Suarez who adds a dark, mysterious vibe to the tune. Distant flutes, stabs of piano, and hollow percussion give this one a distinctive, deep ‘exotica’ vibe. Closing out the single is a sublime rework from USM mainstay and Seattle scene veteran Jon Lee. Crisp drum beats propel an insistent sub-bass riff, moody synth pads, and dubby percussive elements into a cohesive whole. All three cuts are exceptional — it’ll be tough for DJs to choose which one to play first.

Citrus Age (Reflect) – “I absolutely love where this track goes … driving, earthy and intrepid.”
Klaus Benedek (Fortunea Records) – “Very cool. Smooth bassline on the Jon Lee Mix.”
Trinitron (Bounce Brunch) – “Perfect tunes for a boat.”
Jake Beautyman (FUMP) – “Nice deep remix from Jon Lee.”
Spaceotter (SCOHM) – “The Original and Suarez remixes are giving me all the right vibes. Solid work.”
Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle Radio Show) – “Excellent remixes. Such a fantastic atmosphere on the Alvaro Suarez Remix. Epic!”
