Mined Music - In Pieces / Under My Spell (Søndae Records)

Mined Music is Michael Newell, a Munich-based DJ and producer known for his keyboard prowess and funky productions. He also one half of Mined & Forrest, releasing top tracks for labels like Breakbeat Paradise and Timewarp Music. Mined Music now returns to Søndae Records for a fantastic double A-side single, “In Pieces” / “Under My Spell.” These two tunes are full of magical vibes.

In Pieces” is a trippy and operatic hip-hop-flavored tune with a ‘90s-style beat. After contributing vocals to Mined Music’s previous Søndae release, Maree Lawn returns with another captivating performance. She’s assisted by US-based rapper Cleva Thoughts who spits raw lyrics in a riveting old school style — an excellent alternative to the auto-tune overload of today. There’s also an air of mystery, which carries on in “Under My Spell.” This cut slows things down with a laid back ambient groove. UK-based singer Amanda Power expresses the power of desire with a lovely smooth flavor and a subtle, dark twist. The emotive pad movements and synth choirs are joined by Dara Zusko, a professional classical violinist. Her evocative melodies send the listener on a luxurious, deep dive.

Casomado - Can't Catch (Friskybeat Records)

Miguel Leiva is Casomado, a Chilean-Canadian producer and DJ based in Montreal. Influenced by his early life in South America, varied music from the '70s and '80s, and hallmarks of literature and philosophy (which he studies academically), Casomado has settled on a multi-faceted house music sound to move feet and souls alike. “Can’t Catch,” his new single on Friskybeat, is an ode to the creative process and the mysterious act of ‘catching’ inspiration. The track intros with rousing disco string cut-ups as the vocal hook, “fill up on my soul,” rises in the mix. This phrase is meant to call out to the universe for its role in artistic creation. An emotive main vocal enters the cut along with a chunky house rhythm, a punchy bass line, and other well-produced melodic embellishments. “Can’t Catch” is a celebratory club track for getting the floor moving while feeling the possibilities within us all.

Jeffrey Tice - Flying High (Harmonious Discord Recordings)

The kinetic style of San Francisco’s Jeffrey Tice has been on display over the past six years on Harmonious Discord. Jeffrey first asked us “Where Do We Go?” and then showed us the light with “Aurora”. Jeffrey then opened up the spectrum with “Chromatic” and now the label is happy to announce Jeffrey is back with a stratospheric compliment called “Flying High”. Jeffrey provides the easily danceable original and dub mixes while Denied Music label boss Daniel Allen and 1981US break convention with two dynamic broken beat remixes. 1981US makes his debut on HD with his innovative blend of electronica and garage.

“Flying High” bounces with excitement. Commanding tom drums and fluid hi-hats combine to provide a Chicago-style house music bumper with jazz-laden intercepts and acid-inspired bass lines. Familiar vocal treatments and resonated leads create a danceable mayhem. The dub mix features much of the same traditional underground house flair with a stronger focus on the jazz elements and the introduction of funk-inspired bass guitar. Mellow pads and chord rises deliver a sublime reprieve. Daniel Allen returns to the label to give the original a strong breakbeat interpretation with dynamic percussion and shifting melodies. Daniel’s mix utilizes rotating pitch changes to deliver a blissful music experience, focusing on fluid broken beats and elevating melodic elements. 1981US ups the tempo with a garage-inspired re-imagining with nods to early rave culture construction. This remix invokes an inviting sentiment and stands strong in the club and inside the headphones. The outro of the 1981US remix showcases this producer’s deep understanding of sonic manipulation, a perfect finish to the project.

Nick Warren (Hope Recordings) – “Great remix from Daniel Allen.”
DJ Harri (Sub Club) – “I’m liking these. Will play and support.”
Jelo (Buegeyedrecords) – “The Original is super interesting, and a dope blend of vibes. Will play.”
Ivaylo (Bogota Records) – “The Daniel Allen remix is ace!”
Sean Johnston (Hardway Bros) – “the 1981US remix is a killer!”
Anthony Pappa (Bedrock) – “The Daniel Allen Remix is cool.”
Rob Zile (Brain Food / Kiss FM AU) – “Quality release. All versions are winners!”
Koma (Jacbri Radio Show) – “Cool remixes, and a really good original version.”
Simon Kirk (Proton Radio) – “The original mix is awesome. I will be playing this for quite some time.”
Jon Fugler (XLNT Radio Show) – “Strangely pleasing selection of mixes, the sub tom thing becomes increasingly hypnotic … lovely. The Main mix for me, with some added Halloween love for the 1981US mix.”

Jack & Jointz feat. Ashley Slater - Holy Water (Søndae Records)

Søndae Records is back with the second single from Jack & Jointz. The duo — comprised of German producers Quincy Jointz and Thorsten Walter — have teamed up again with legendary singer Ashley Slater. Ashley, of course, is known as the vocalist for Freak Power, as well as his supercharged collaborations with Rory Hoy. He’s become a regular (virtual) fixture in the Jack & Jointz studio, providing vocals for five songs on their debut album. And now it’s time for the latest — “Holy Water.”

“Holy Water” is a break-up song. But how does a break-up song sound with a singer like Ashley? One can guess it won’t be in schmaltzy ballad territory. Instead it’s something groovy, with funky bass and chunky mid-tempo beats. London-based Lucia La Rezza adds beautiful violin melodies for extra musical layers over Jack & Jointz' crisp production. And Ashley’s distinctive vocals excel — emotive and affecting, it’s the sound of a pro at the top of his game.

The single also includes an instrumental for bonus DJ action. Get soaked in some “Holy Water!”

Kid Loco (Flor) – “I love Ashley’s singing, this is great.”
Mr. Bristow (Subtek) – “Nice track, great vocal performance. Awesome work.”
Rory Hoy (Super Hi-Fi) – “Awesome work as always. Definitely supporting.”
Mined Music (Søndae Records) – “This tune has so much flavor. Love it!”
FineCutBodies (Chi Recordings) – “Love it. Søndae seems to be on fire!“
Prosper (DJ Prosper) – “Nice vibes, melancholy and melodic. Well done!”
Matt Sonzala (Radio KAOS) – “This slams for real, and I will be playing it on the show.”
Floored Capri (Kane FM) – “Cool joint this. Holier than Jack and fresher than water.”
Lakatos Sandor Suefo (Radio Tilos 90.3 FM) – “Ashley + Violin? Yes! And working well. Nice tune.”
Jon Wesley (Music Goes On Radio Show) – “Love it! I’m a fan of Ashley Slater, so I know I would like it even before I heard it.”
